THE 25TH NIGHT OF ZILQAD;
The Earth Spreading night
This night is called laylat dahw al-ard (the night at which the earth was spread on the water where the Holy Ka’bah is now situated). Being distinctively honorable, at this night the mercy of Almighty Allah is poured on people. A great reward is obtained by those who practice acts of worship at this night. Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Washsha’ has narrated that when he was young, he was with his father in the hospitality of Imam al-Rida(a.s.) at the twenty-fifth night of Dhu’l-Qa’dah. After they had their supper, Imam al-Rida(a.s.) said, “At the twenty-fifth night of Dhu’l-Qa’dah, Prophet Abraham was born, Prophet Jesus the son of Mary was born, and the earth was spread on the water where the Holy Ka’bah is now situated. Hence, if one observes fasting on this day, he will be given the reward of observing fasting in sixth months.” According to another narration, Imam al-Rida(a.s.) added, “Verily, on this day, al-Qa’im (i.e. Imam al-Mahdi) will appear.”
THE 25TH OF ZILQAD;
The Earth Spreading Day
The twenty-fifth of Dhu’l-Qa’dah is one of the four days on which fasting is exclusively confirmed. According to a narration, to observe fasting on this day is equal to seventy year fasting. It also erases the sins of seventy years. According to another narration, to observe fasting on this day and to practice acts of worship at its night is equal (in reward) to one hundred year worship. Everything that is between the sky and the earth will ask God’s forgiveness for one who does these rites. On this day, the mercy of Almighty Allah has been spread. To practice acts of worship and hold sessions for mentioning Almighty Allah on this day bring about an abundant reward. Apart from fasting, acts of worship, remembrance of Almighty Allah, and bathing, there are two other acts that are advisably done on this day:
First: The books written by Shi’ite scholars of Qumm have mentioned that, on this day, it is recommended to offer, in the morning, a prayer consisting of two units, reciting in the each unit Surah al-Faatehah once and repeating Surah al-Shams (No. 91) five times. After accomplishment, the following litany is said:
لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ اِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيْمِ
There is no power and no strengthexcept with Allah, the Most High, the All-great.
نہیں ہے کوئی طاقت و قوّت مگر وہی جو بلند و برتر خدا سے ملتی ہے۔
Then, one may pray Almighty Allah for granting his needs and then say the following supplicatory prayer:
يَا مُقِيْلَ الْعَثَرَاتِ اَقِلْنِيْ عَثْرَتِيْ
O He Who overlooks slips, (please) overlook my slip.
اے لغزشوں کے سنبھالنے والے مجھے سنبھال لے۔
يَا مُجِيْبَ الدَّعَوَاتِ اَجِبْ دَعْوَتِيْ
O He Who responds to prayers, (please) respond to my prayer.
اے دعاؤں کے قبول کرنے والے میری دعا کو قبول کرلے
يَا سَامِعَ الْاَصْوَاتِ اسْمَعْ صَوْتِيْ
O He Who hears all sounds, (please) listen to mine,
اے آوازوں کے سننے والے میری آواز کو سن لے
وَ ارْحَمْنِيْ وَ تَجَاوَزْ عَنْ سَيِّئَاتِيْ وَ مَا عِنْدِيْ
have mercy on me, and excuse my wrongdoings and whatever I have committed.
اور مجھ پر رحم کر، میری برائیوں سے درگذر فرما۔ میری خطاؤں کو بخش دے
يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَ الْاِكْرَامِ۔
O Lord of majesty and honor!
اے صاحبِ جلال و اکرام۔
Second: In Misbah al-Mutahajjid, Shaykh al-Tusi has mentioned that it is recommended to say the following supplicatory prayer on this day:
اَللّٰهُمَّ دَاحِيَ الْكَعْبَةِ
O Allah Who spread the Ka'bah,
اے زمین کعبہ کے فرش کرنے والے
وَ فَالِقَ الْحَبَّةِ
split the kernel,
اور دانوں کو شگافتہ کرنے والے
وَ صَارِفَ اللَّزْبَةِ
removes troubles,
اور سختیوں کو برطرف کرنے والے،
وَ كَاشِفَ كُلِّ كُرْبَةٍ
and relieves from all distresses!
رنج و غم کو دور کرنے والے
اَسْاَلُكَ فِيْ هٰذَا الْيَوْمِ مِنْ اَيَّامِكَ
I beseech You on this day, which is one of Your days
میرا سوال آج کے دن جو تیرے ان دنوں میں سے ہے
الَّتِيْ اَعْظَمْتَ حَقَّهَا
whose standing You have deemed great,
جن کے حق کو عظیم بنایا
وَ اَقْدَمْتَ سَبْقَهَا
whom You have given preference,
اور ان کو تمام دنوں پر مقدّم کیا
وَ جَعَلْتَهَا عِنْدَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَدِيْعَةً
and whom You have put as trust with the believers
وہاں کے لیے ان کو امانت بنایا اور اپنی وعدہ گاہ کے لیے
وَ اِلَيْكَ ذَرِيْعَةً
and as means to approaching to You;
ذریعہ قرار دیا
وَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ الْوَسِيْعَةِ
and [I beseech You] in the name of Your ample mercy
تیری وسیع رحمت کا واسطہ
اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ
to send blessings to Muhammad,
حضرت محمدؐ پر رحمت نازل فرما
عَبْدِكَ الْمُنْتَجَبِ فِي الْمِيْثَاقِ الْقَرِيْبِ
Your servant that You have selected in the Nigh Covenant
جو تیرے منتخب شدہ بندے جو تیرے قریب تر ہیں
يَوْمَ التَّلَاقِ
on the Meeting Day,
روزِ الست میں
فَاتِقِ كُلِّ رَتْقٍ
the splitter of all joined things
جو ہر سر بستہ امر کو شگافتہ کرنے والے
وَ دَاعٍ اِلٰى كُلِّ حَقٍّ
and the caller to all truths,
اور ہر حق کی طرف دعوت دینے والے
وَ عَلٰىۤ اَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الْاَطْهَارِ
and to his Household, the pure,
اور ان کے اہل بیتِ اطہارؑ کو
الْهُدَاةِ الْمَنَارِ
the guides, the lanterns,
جو ہادی اور منارِ ہدایت ہیں
دَعَاۤئِمِ الْجَبَّارِ
the pillars of the Omnipotent (Lord),
اور پروردگار کے دین کے ستون
وَ وُلَاةِ الْجَنَّةِ وَ النَّارِ
and the supervisors on Paradise and Hell,
اور جنّت و جہنّم کے حاکم ہیں
وَ اَعْطِنَا فِيْ يَوْمِنَا هٰذَا مِنْ عَطَاۤئِكَ الْمَخْزُوْنِ
to give us on this day from Your stored gifts,
اور ہم کو آج کے دن اپنی خصوصی عطا سے نواز دے کہ جس کا سلسلہ
غَيْرَ مَقْطُوْعٍ وَ لَا مَمْنُوْعٍ
gifts that are neither interrupted nor prohibited
نہ قطع ہونے والا ہو اور نہ رُکنے والا ہو
تَجْمَعُ لَنَا بِهِ التَّوْبَةَ وَ حُسْنَ الْاَوْبَةِ،
by which You join for us both repentance and acceptable return [to You].
جس کے ذریعہ ہمیں توبہ اور بہترین عنایت عطا فرمادے
يَا خَيْرَ مَدْعُوٍّ
O He Who is the best of all supplicated ones
اے بہترین وہ حق ذات جس سے دعا کی جائے
وَ اَكْرَمَ مَرْجُوٍّ
and the most generous of all hoped ones!
اور امید وابستہ کی جائے
يَا كَفِيُّ يَا وَفِيُّ
O All-sufficer! O All-true!
اے کام آنے والے اے مکمل حق دینے والے۔
يَا مَنْ لُطْفُهُ خَفِيٌّ
O He Whose grace is gentle!
اے وہ جس کا لطف خفی ہے
اُلْطُفْ لِيْ بِلُطْفِكَ
(Please) treat me gracefully with Your graciousness,
میرے ساتھ اپنے لطف سے کرم فرما
وَ اَسْعِدْنِيْ بِعَفْوِكَ
make me feel happy •with Your pardon,
اور اپنی معافی سے میری مدد فرما۔
وَ اَيِّدْنِيْ بِنَصْرِكَ
aid me with Your support,
اپنی نصرت سے میری تائید فرما۔
وَ لَا تُنْسِنِيْ كَرِيْمَ ذِكْرِكَ بِوُلَاةِ اَمْرِكَ
never make me inattentive of Your noble mention through Your Representatives
مجھے فراموش نہ کردینا اپنے بہترین ذکر سے ان کے واسطے سے جو تیرے ولیِ امر ہیں،
وَ حَفَظَةِ سِرِّكَ
and the keepers of Your secret,
جو تیرے رازِ رازدار ہیں۔
وَ احْفَظْنِيْ مِنْ شَوَاۤئِبِ الدَّهْرِ
protect me against the vicissitudes of time
مجھے زمانے کے شکوک و شبہات سے محفوظ رکھنا
اِلٰى يَوْمِ الْحَشْرِ وَ النَّشْرِ
up to the day of resurrection and raising (the dead to life),
روزِ حشر و نشر تک
وَ اَشْهِدْنِيْۤ اَوْلِيَاۤءَكَ عِنْدَ خُرُوْجِ نَفْسِيْ
and make Your Representatives attend at the hour of the departure of my souls,
اور اولیاء کو میری جان نکلنے
وَ حُلُوْلِ رَمْسِيْ
the time of my entry to my grave,
اور قبر میں جانے
وَ انْقِطَاعِ عَمَلِيْ
when my deed will be interrupted
اور اعمال کے منقطع ہونے
وَ انْقِضَاۤءِ اَجَلِيْۤ
and my lifetime will come to its end.
اور مدّتِ حیات کے ختم ہونے کے وقت مجھ سے ملا دینا۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ اذْكُرْنِيْ عَلٰى طُوْلِ الْبِلٰىۤ
0 Allah, (please) remember me all over the stages of trial
خدایا مجھے سخت ترین مواقع پر نظرانداز نہ کرنا
اِذَا حَلَلْتُ بَيْنَ اَطْبَاقِ الثَّرٰى
when I will reside between the layers of the earth
جب میں مٹی کے طبقات میں اُتارا جاؤں
وَ نَسِيَنِيَ النَّاسُوْنَ مِنَ الْوَرٰى
and the forgetful people will forget me.
اور میرے بعد رہ جانے والے مجھے فراموش کردیں
وَ اَحْلِلْنِيْ دَارَ الْمُقَامَةِ
Allow me to dwell in the abode of eternity,
تو خدایا دار القرار میں جگہ دینا
وَ بَوِّئْنِيْ مَنْزِلَ الْكَرَامَةِ،
settle me in the residence of honor,
محلِ کرامت میں منزل عطا کرنا،
وَ اجْعَلْنِيْ مِنْ مُرَافِقِيْ اَوْلِيَاۤئِكَ
make me of the companions of Your intimate servants
اور اپنے اولیاء کی رفاقت اور
وَ اَهْلِ اجْتِبَاۤئِكَ وَ اصْطِفَاۤئِكَ
and the people of Your choice and selection,
منتخب اصطفیٰ بندوں کی رفاقت میں قرار دینا۔
وَ بَارِكْ لِيْ فِيْ لِقَاۤئِكَ
bless me by meeting You,
اور اپنی ملاقات کو بابرکت بنا دینا
وَ ارْزُقْنِيْ حُسْنَ الْعَمَلِ قَبْلَ حُلُوْلِ الْاَجَلِ
and grant me gooddoing before the end of my lifetime,
اور موت آنے سے پہلے حسنِ عمل کی توفیق دینا۔
بَرِيْئًا مِنَ الزَّلَلِ وَ سُوْۤءِ الْخَطَلِ
making me free from slips and foolish doing.
لغزشوں سے اور برائیوں سے محفوظ رکھنا۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ اَوْرِدْنِيْ حَوْضَ نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ
O Allah, allow me to enter the Pool of Your Prophet, Muhammad,
اے معبود مجھے حوضِ کوثر پر وارد فرما اپنے نبی حضرت محمد
صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهِ
Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Household,
صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ کے
وَ اسْقِنِيْ مِنْهُ مَشْرَبًا رَوِيًّا
allow me to drink from it a quenching drink
وہاں سے بہترین خوشگوار انداز سے
سَاۤئِغًا هَنِيْۤئًا
that is palatable and salubrious
سکون کے ساتھ سیراب کردینا۔
لَاۤ اَظْمَاُ بَعْدَهُ وَ لَاۤ اَحْلَاُ وِرْدَهُ
after which I will never be thirsty, I will never be prevented from reaching it,
جس کے بعد پھر کبھی پیاس کا احساس نہ ہو، وہاں سے نکالا نہ جاؤں
وَ لَا عَنْهُ اُذَادُ
and I will never be disallowed to approach it.
اس کے گھاٹ سے ہٹایا نہ جاؤں۔
وَ اجْعَلْهُ لِيْ خَيْرَ زَادٍ
Make for me the best nourishment
خدایا اس کو میرے لیے بہترین زاد
وَ اَوْفٰى مِيْعَادٍ يَوْمَ يَقُوْمُ الْاَشْهَادُ
and the most fulfilling promise on the day when the Witnesses will rise.
اور اس دن بہترین مجلس قرار دینا جس دن تمام گواہ شہادت کے لیے کھڑے ہوجائیں۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ الْعَنْ جَبَابِرَةَ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَ الْاٰخِرِيْنَ
O Allah, curse the tyrants from the past and the last generations
خدایا لعنت فرما اوّلین و آخرین جابروں پر
وَ بِحُقُوْقِ اَوْلِيَاۤئِكَ الْمُسْتَأْثِرِيْنَ
who usurped the dues of Your Representatives.
اور اپنے اولیاء کے حقوق کے غاصبوں پر
اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ اقْصِمْ دَعَاۤئِمَهُمْ
O Allah, demolish their posts,
خدایا ان کے ستونوں کو توڑ دے
وَ اَهْلِكْ اَشْيَاعَهُمْ وَ عَامِلَهُمْ
annihilate their allies and their assistants,
ان کے گواہ و اعمال کو ہلاک کردے،
وَ عَجِّلْ مَهَالِكَهُمْ
and hasten their perdition,
ان کی ہلاکت کو قریب تر بنادے،
وَ اسْلُبْهُمْ مَمَالِكَهُمْ
seize their estates,
ان کے ملکوں کو سلب کرلے،
وَ ضَيِّقْ عَلَيْهِمْ مَسَالِكَهُمْ
make narrow their ways,
ان پر راستوں کو بند کردے،
وَ الْعَنْ مُسَاهِمَهُمْ وَ مُشَارِكَهُمْ۔
and curse their helpers and aides.
ان کے ساتھیوں اور شریکوں پر لعنت فرما۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ عَجِّلْ فَرَجَ اَوْلِيَاۤئِكَ
Allah, (please) hasten the relief of Your Representatives,
خدایا اپنے اولیاء کی کشایشِ احوال فرما۔
وَ ارْدُدْ عَلَيْهِمْ مَظَالِمَهُمْ
restore to them their usurped rights,
ان کے حقوق کو واپس دلادے۔
وَ اَظْهِرْ بِالْحَقِّ قَاۤئِمَهُمْ
cause their Riser to prevail with the truth,
ان کے قائم کو حق کے ساتھ ظاہر فرما
وَ اجْعَلْهُ لِدِيْنِكَ مُنْتَصِرًا
and make him support Your religion
اور اسے اپنے دین کے لیے مددگار بنادے
وَ بِاَمْرِكَ فِيْۤ اَعْدَاۤئِكَ مُؤْتَمِرًا
and carry out Your commandments about Your enemies.
جو دشمنوں کے بارے میں تیرے حکم پر عمل کرے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ احْفُفْهُ بِمَلَاۤئِكَةِ النَّصْرِ
O Allah, make the angels of victory surround him
خدایا انھیں ملائکہ کی نصرت سے گھیر دے۔
وَ بِمَاۤ اَلْقَيْتَ اِلَيْهِ مِنَ الْاَمْرِ
and so are the commandments that You addressed to him
جس امر کو ان پر تو نازل کرتا ہے
فِيْ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ
at the Destiny Night
شبِ قدر میں
مُنْتَقِمًا لَكَ حَتّٰى تَرْضٰى
so that he will punish Your enemies on behalf of You until You are pleased,
تا کہ وہ تیرے لیے اسی طرح انتقام لیں کہ تو راضی ہوجائے
وَ يَعُوْدَ دِيْنُكَ بِهِ وَ عَلٰى يَدَيْهِ جَدِيْدًا غَضًّا
Your religion will recover its freshness and bloom at his hands,
اور تیرا دین ان کے ذریعہ اور ان کے ہاتھوں پر تر و تازہ ہوکر سامنے آئے۔
وَ يَمْحَضَ الْحَقَّ مَحْضًا
he will clean the truth with thorough cleaning,
حق خالص ہوجائے
وَ يَرْفِضَ الْبَاطِلَ رَفْضًا
and he will reject the wrong with absolute rejection.
اور باطل کو نظرانداز کردیا جائے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَ عَلٰى جَمِيْعِ اٰبَاۤئِهِ
O Allah, send blessings to him and to all of his forefathers,
خدایا ان پر اور ان کے تمام اجدادِ طاہرین پر رحمت نازل فرما۔
وَ اجْعَلْنَا مِنْ صَحْبِهِ وَ اُسْرَتِهِ
include us with his companions and group,
ہمیں ان کے اصحاب اور قبیلہ میں قرار دے
وَ ابْعَثْنَا فِي كَرَّتِهِ
and resurrect us during his return
اور ان کے ساتھ محشور کرنا
حَتّٰى نَكُوْنَ فِيْ زَمَانِهِ مِنْ اَعْوَانِهِ
so that we will live in his age and become of his helpers.
تا کہ ہم ان کے زمانہ میں ان کے انصار میں شمار ہوں۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ اَدْرِكْ بِنَا قِيَامَهُ
O Allah, make us catch up his advent,
خدایا ہمیں ان کے قیام تک پہنچا دینا
وَ اَشْهِدْنَا اَيَّامَهُ
make us witness his days,
اور ان کے زمانہ میں حاضر رکھنا،
وَ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ [عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ] وَ ارْدُدْ اِلَيْنَا سَلَامَهُ
bless him, and convey to us his greetings.
ان پر رحمت نازل فرما اور ان کے سلام کو ہم تک پہنچا دے۔
وَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْهِ [عَلَيْهِمْ] وَ رَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ۔
Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon him.
ہمارا سلام ان پر ہے اور تیری رحمت و برکت ان کے لیے ہے۔
In his epistle entitled al-Arba’at Ayyam (The Four Days), Sayyid al-Damad has mentioned that to visit the holy tomb of Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Rida(a.s.) on the day; i.e. the Earth Spreading Day, is the most preferable act. Similarly, to visit his tomb on the first of Rajab is highly desirable; therefore, he has urged on it greatly.
