دُعا ءالحج
In al-Kafi, al-Kulayni has narrated on the authority of Abu-Basir that Imam al-Sadiq(a.s.) used to say the following supplicatory prayer in Ramadan:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنّي بِكَ وَمِنْكَ اَطْلُبُ حَاجَتِيْ،
O Allah, from You and by You, I beseech for settling my need.
خدایا میں تیرے وسیلہ سے اور تجھ ہی سے اپنی حاجتیں طلب کر رہا ہوں
وَمَنْ طَلَبَ حَاجَةً اِليَ النَّاسِ
If others beg people for settling their needs,
اور کوئی شخص اپنی حاجت کو لوگوں سے طلب کرتا ہے
فَاِنِّي لَآ اَطْلُبُ حَاجَتي اِلَّا مِنْكَ
I ask none except You for settling my need;
تو میں تیرے علاوہ کسی سے طلب نہیں کر رہاہوں کہ
وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَكَ،
from You alone, since You have no partner with You.
تو اکیلا ہے اور تیرا کوئی شریک نہیں ہے
وَاَسْاَلُكَ بِفَضْلِكَ وَرِضْوَانِكَ
I thus implore You in the name of Your favor and Your pleasure,
اور میں تیرے فضل و خوشنودی سے یہ سوال کرتا ہوں کہ
اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ،
to send blessings to Muhammad and his Household
حضرت محمدؐ اور ان کے اہلبیتؑ پر رحمت نازل فرما
وَاَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِيْ فِيْ عَامِيْ هٰذٰ اِلٰى بَيْتِكَ الْحَرَامِ سَبِيْلًا
and to choose for me a way to Your Holy House this year:
اور ہمارے لئے اس سال اپنے محترم گھر کا راستہ بنا دے۔
حِجَّةً مَبْرُوْرَةً
a pilgrimage that is admitted,
جس کا حج بہترین،
مُتَقَبَّلَةً زَاكِيَةً
accepted, pure,
مقبول، پاکیزہ ،
خَالِصَةً لَكَ
and sincerely intended for You by which You delight me
اور خالص ہو
تَقَرُّ بِهَا عَيْنِيْ،
and raise my rank with You.
جس سے میری آنکھیں ٹھنڈی ہوں
وَتَرْفَعُ بِهَا دَرَجَتِيْ،
Confer upon me with the grace of making me cast my sight
اور میرا درجہ بلند ہو
وَتَرْزُقَنِيْ اَنْ اَغُضَّ بَصَرِيْ،
down (against what is illegal for me to look at),
اور تو مجھے توفیق دے کہ میں اپنی نگاہوں کو نیچا رکھوں۔
وَاَنْ اَحْفَظَ فَرْجِيْ،
making me act chastely,
اپنی غفلت کی حفاظت کروں
وَاَنْ اَكُفَّ بِهَا عَنْ جَمِيْعِ مَحَارِمَكَ،
and making me stop committing any deed that You have deemed unlawful
اور تمام محرمات سے اپنے کو بچائے رکھوں
حَتّٰى لَايَكُوْنَ شَيْءٌ اٰثَرَ عِنْدِيْ مِنْ طَاعَتِكَ وَخَشْيَتِكَ،
so that nothing will be more preferred in my sight than obedience to You, fear of You,
تا کہ کوئی شئے میری نگاہ میں تیری اطاعت تیرے خوف
وَالْعَمَلِ بِمَا اَحْبَبْتَ،
doing all that which You love,
اور تیرے پسندیدہ اعمال کو انجام دینے سے
وَالتَّرْكِ لِمَا كَرِهْتَ وَنَهَيْتَ عَنْهُ،
and avoiding all that which You have detested and warned against.
اور تیرے ناپسندیدہ اعمال کو ترک کرنے سے زیادہ محبوب نہ ہو
وَاجْعَلْ ذٰلِكَ فِيْ يُسْرٍ وَيَسَارٍ
(Please) make all that take place witheasiness, lenience,
اور اس امر میں بھی میرے لئے سہولت و آسانی
وَ عَافِيَةٍ وَمَآ اَنْعَمْتَ بِهِ عَلَيَّ،
and good health as well as the grace that You have bestowed upon me.
اور عافیت قرار دے، اور اس کے ساتھ جو بھی نعمت تو مجھے عطا کرے
وَاَسْاَلُكَ اَنْ تَجْعَلَ وَفَاتِيْ قَتْلًا فِيْ سَبِيْلِكَ،
I beseech You to cause me to die as martyr for Your sake,
اور میں یہ بھی سوال کرتا ہوں کہ تو میری وفات کو اپنی راہ میں شہادت بنا دے
تَحْتَ رَايَةِ نَبِيِّكَ مَعَ اَوْلِيَآئِكَ،
under the pennon of Your Prophet and in the line of Your intimate servants.
تیرے پیغمبرؐ کے پرچم کے نیچے، اپنے اولیاء کے ساتھ۔
وَاَسْاَلُكَ اَنْ تَقْتُلَ بِيْ اَعْدَاۤءَكَ وَاَعْدَاۤءَ رَسُوْلِكَ،
I ask You to make me a means of killing Your enemies and the enemies of Your Messenger.
اور میرا سوال یہ بھی ہے کہ میرے ذریعہ اپنے اور اپنے رسولؐ کے دشمنوں کو قتل کرا دے
وَاَسْاَلُكَ اَنْ تُكْرِمَنِيْ بِهَوَانِ مَنْ شِئْتَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ،
I ask You to honor me through humiliating any one of Your created beings that You choose,
اور مجھے جس مخلوق کی ذلت کے عوض تو چاہے کرامت عنایت فرما دے
وَلَا تُهِنِّي بِكَرَامَةِ اَحَدٍ مِنْ اَوْلِيَاۤءِكَ
and not to humiliate me through honoring any of Your intimate servants.
لیکن اپنے اولیاء کے عوض مجھے ذلیل نہ کرنا۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ لِيْ مَعَ الرَّسُوْلِ سَبِيْلًا،
O Allah, find me a way with the Messenger.
خدایا میرے لیے رسول کے ساتھ راستہ بنا دے۔
حَسْبِيَ اللهُ مَا شَاۤءَ اللهُ۔
Allah is Sufficient unto me! Only that which Allah wants shall take place.
اللہ ہی میرے لیے کافی ہے اور وہ جو چاہتا ہے وہ کر لیتا ہے۔
This supplication is called Dua al-Hajj. It has been narrated by Sayyid Ibn Tawus in al-Iqbal who said that Imam al-Sadiq(a.s.) used to say this supplicatory prayer after the Maghrib (sunset) Prayers in Ramadan. Moreover, Shaykh al-Kaf’ami, in al-Balad al-Amin, has narrated that it is recommended to say this supplicatory prayer every day in Ramadan and especially at the first night of it. As to Shaykh al-Mufid, he, in his book of al-Muqni’ah, has mentioned that this supplicatory prayer is exclusively said at the first night of Ramadan after the Maghrib Prayer.
