شب نیمۂ شعبان
This night is extraordinarily honorable. Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq(a.s.) has narrated that when Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) was asked about the merits of the fifteenth night of Sha’ban, he answered, “It is the most favorable night after the Qadr Night. At this night, Almighty Allah bestows upon His servants with His favors and grants them His pardon out of His conferral of benefits to them. Therefore, you should exert all efforts to seek nearness to Him at this night, because He - the Majestic and Honorable - has decided not to reject any asker as long as he does not ask for an act of disobedience to Him. Almighty Allah has chosen this night for us, the Ahl al-Bayt, just as He has chosen the Qadr Night for our Prophet - peace be upon him and his Household. You should thus pray and thank Him diligently.”
One of the marvelous blessings of this night is that it is the birth night of the Patron of the Age, Imam al-Mahdi(a.s.) - may Allah accept our souls as ransoms for him. He was born in Surra-man-ra’a (currently Samarra’) at the hour before daybreak in AH 255. This incident increases the merits of this honorable night.
However, narrations have carried may recommended rites to be carried out at this night:
First: It is highly recommended to bathe oneself at this night, for this act decreases the punishment for one’s sins.
Second: It is highly recommended to imitate Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-’Abidin (a.s.) who used to spend this whole night with acts of worship, prayers, supplications, invocations, and implorations for forgiveness. A tradition confirm that as for one who spends this whole night with acts of worship, his heart will not die when other hearts die.
Third: It is highly recommended to visit the tomb of Imam al-Husayn (a.s.). In fact, this is the most favorable act at this night. It also brings about forgiveness of one’s sins. If you desire that 124,000 Prophets shake hands with you, you may visit the holy tomb of Imam al-Husayn (a.s.) at this night. The least act of Ziyarah is to go up an elevated place, look to the right and the left, raise the head towards the heavens, and say these statements:
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَاۤ اَبَا عَبْدِ اللّٰهِ
Peace be upon you, O Abu-'Abdullah!
سلام ہو آپ پر اے ابو عبداللہؑ!
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ
Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you.
سلام ہو آپ پر اور اللہ کی رحمت اور اس کی برکتیں
One who performs this form of Ziyarah is expected to win the reward of one Hajj and one ‘Umrah. In the section of Ziyarat, we will mention further details about the peculiar merits of Ziyarah at this night.
Fourth: It is recommended to say the following supplicatory prayer, which stands for a form of Ziyarah for Imam al-Mahdi(a.s.). This supplicatory prayer has been mentioned by both Sayyid Ibn Tawus and Shaykh al-Tusi:
اَللّٰهُمَّ بِحَقِّ لَيْلَتِنَا [هٰذِهِ] وَ مَوْلُوْدِهَا
O Allah, I beseech You in the name of this night, in the name of him whom was born at it,
خدایا آج کی رات اور اس کے مولود کے حق کا واسطہ
وَ حُجَّتِكَ وَ مَوْعُوْدِهَا
in the name of Your Argument, and in the name of Your promise in it;
تیری حجّت اور اس رات کے موعود کا واسطہ
الَّتِيْ قَرَنْتَ اِلٰى فَضْلِهَا فَضْلًا
the night that You have added a new merit to its many merits.
جس کی فضیلتوں میں تو نے مسلسل اضافہ کیا ہے
فَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَتُكَ صِدْقًا وَ عَدْلًا
So, Your Word has been accomplished truly and fairly.
یہاں تک کہ تیرا کلمۂ صداقت اور عدالت کے ساتھ مکمل ہوگیا
لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَاتِكَ
No one can change Your words
اور اب تیرے کلمہ کو کوئی بدل نہیں سکتا ہے
وَ لَا مُعَقِّبَ لِاٰيَاتِكَ
or obscure Your signs.
اور کوئی تیری آیات کی تعقیب نہیں کرسکتا ہے۔
نُوْرُكَ الْمُتَاَلِّقُ
(He is) Your glowing Light,
تیرا نور روشن،
وَ ضِيَاۤؤُكَ الْمُشْرِقُ
Your bring splendor,
تیری ضیاء درخشندہ،
وَ الْعَلَمُ النُّوْرُ فِيْ طَخْيَاۤءِ الدَّيْجُوْرِ
the luminous sign in the obscurity of darkness,
تیرا پرچم اندھیری راتوں میں روشنی بخش،
الْغَاۤئِبُ الْمَسْتُوْرُ
the absent, and the concealed.
وہ تیرا بندہ جو نگاہوں سے غائب اور پس پردہ ہے
جَلَّ مَوْلِدُهُ وَ كَرُمَ مَحْتِدُهُ
Lofty is his birth and noble is his lineage.
جس کی ولادت جلیل اور جس کی اصل عظیم ہے۔
وَ الْمَلَاۤئِكَةُ شُهَّدُهُ
The angels are his witnesses
ملائکہ اس کے گواہ،
وَ اللّٰهُ نَاصِرُهُ وَ مُؤَيِّدُهُ
and Allah is his Supporter and Backer
اللہ اس کا مددگار اور تائید کرنے والا ہے۔
اِذَا اٰنَ مِيْعَادُهُ وَ الْمَلَاۤئِكَةُ اَمْدَادُهُ
when his time comes and the angels shall be his sponsors.
جب اس کا وقت معیّن آجائے اور ملائکہ اس کے مددگار ہوں۔
سَيْفُ اللّٰهِ الَّذِيْ لَا يَنْبُوْ
He shall act as the sword of Allah that shall never miss the target,
وہ اللہ کی وہ تلوار ہے جو اچٹتی نہیں ہے۔
وَ نُوْرُهُ الَّذِيْ لَا يَخْبُوْ
His light that shall never be extinguished,
وہ نور ہے جو بجھنے والا نہیں ہے۔
وَ ذُوْ الْحِلْمِ الَّذِيْ لَا يَصْبُوْ
and the forbearing person who shall never deviate the truth.
وہ صاحبِ ہوش ہے جو بہکنے والا نہیں ہے۔
مَدَارُ الدَّهْرِ
He is the motive and reason of the course of events,
زمانے کا دار و مدار،
وَ نَوَامِيْسُ الْعَصْرِ
the one for whom the laws of ages have been made,
ہر دور کے ناموس کا ذمّہ دار
وَ وُلَاةُ الْاَمْرِ
and one of the men in authority
ولی امر
وَ الْمُنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا يَتَنَزَّلُ فِيْ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ،
who receive that which is revealed on the Grand Night,
جس پر فرشتے شبِ قدر میں نازل ہوتے ہیں،
وَ اَصْحَابُ الْحَشْرِ وَ النَّشْرِ
and the managers of the Resurrection and the Account.
صاحبانِ حشر و نشر،
تَرَاجِمَةُ وَحْيِهِ
They are the interpreters of His revelations
وحی کے ترجمان،
وَ وُلَاةُ اَمْرِهِ وَ نَهْيِهِ
and in charge of what is deemed lawful and what is deemed unlawful by Him.
امر و نہی کے ذمّہ دار ہیں۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلٰى خَاتِمِهِمْ وَ قَاۤئِمِهِمُ
O Allah, send blessings to their seal and their Riser
خدایا اپنے ان بندوں کے خاتم اور قائم پر رحمت نازل فرما
الْمَسْتُوْرِ عَنْ عَوَالِمِهِمْ
whom is hidden from their world.
جس کو عالمین کی نگاہوں سے پوشیدہ رکھا ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ اَدْرِكْ بِنَاۤ اَيَّامَهُ
O Allah, (please) make us causes for the coming of him
مالک ہمیں ان کے دورانِ ظہور
وَ ظُهُوْرَهُ وَ قِيَامَهُ
and causes for his advent and reappearance.
اور ان کے قیام تک باقی رکھنا
وَ اجْعَلْنَا مِنْ اَنْصَارِهِ
(Please) include us with his supporters,
اور ان کے انصار میں قرار دینا۔
وَ اقْرِنْ ثَارَنَا بِثَارِهِ
join our vengeance to his vengeance,
ہمارے انتقام کو ان کے انتقام سے ملا دینا
وَ اكْتُبْنَا فِيْۤ اَعْوَانِهِ وَ خُلَصَاۤئِهِ
and decide us to be among his assistants and elite ones.
اور ہمیں ان کے مددگاروں اور مخلصین میں لکھ لینا
وَ اَحْيِنَا فِيْ دَوْلَتِهِ نَاعِمِيْنَ
Make us live in bliss in his reign,
اور ان کی حکومت میں سکون کے ساتھ زندہ رکھنا
وَ بِصُحْبَتِهِ غَانِمِيْنَ
win the ecstasy of his companionship,
تا کہ ان کی صحبت کا شرف حاصل کرسکیں
وَ بِحَقِّهِ قَاۤئِمِيْنَ
among those who carry out our duty toward him,
اور ان کے حق کو ادا کرسکیں
وَ مِنَ السُّوْۤءِ سَالِمِيْنَ
and save us from evil.
اور ہر برائی سے محفوظ رہ سکیں
يَاۤ اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ
O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!
یا ارحم الراحمین۔
وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ
All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
حمد اس اللہ کے لیے ہے جو ربّ العالمین ہے۔
وَ صَلَوَاتُهُ عَلٰى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ
His blessings be upon our master, Muhammad,
صلوات ہمارے آقا محمدؐ
خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ وَ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ
the seal of the Prophets and the Messengers,
خاتم النبیین و مرسلین
وَ عَلٰى اَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الصَّادِقِيْنَ
upon his Household the veracious,
اور ان کے اہل بیت صادقینؑ پر
وَ عِتْرَتِهِ النَّاطِقِيْنَ
and upon his offspring, the spokespersons of the truth.
اور ان کی عترتِ ناطقین پر
وَ الْعَنْ جَمِيْعَ الظَّالِمِيْنَ
Curse all the wrongdoers
اور لعنت ہو تمام ظالمین پر۔
وَ احْكُمْ بَيْنَنَا وَ بَيْنَهُمْ
and judge between them and us.
خدایا ہمارے اور ان ظالموں کے درمیان تو ہی فیصلہ کرنا کہ
يَاۤ اَحْكَمَ الْحَاكِمِيْنَ
O Most Just of all judges!
تو بہترین فیصلہ کرنے والا ہے۔
Fifth: Shaykh Isma’il ibn Fadl al-Hashimi has narrated that Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq(a.s.) instructed him to say the following supplicatory prayer at the fifteenth night of Sha’ban:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اَنْتَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّوْمُ
O Allah, You are verily the Ever-living, the Self-Subsisting,
خدایا تو حی، قیّوم،
الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيْمُ
the Most High, the All-great,
علیُّ، عظیم،
الْخَالِقُ الرَّازِقُ
the Creator, the Sustainer,
خالق، رازق،
الْمُحْيِيْ الْمُمِيْتُ
the Giver of live, the Causer of death,
زندگی بخش، موت دینے والا،
الْبَدِيْۤءُ الْبَدِيْعُ
the Originator, the Maker.
ایجاد کرنے والا،
لَكَ الْجَلَالُ
To You is the Majesty
صاحبِ جلال،
وَ لَكَ الْفَضْلُ
to You is the favor,
صاحبِ فضل،
وَ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ
to You is all praise,
صاحبِ حمد،
وَ لَكَ الْمَنُّ
to You is thanks,
صاحبِ احسان،
وَ لَكَ الْجُوْدُ
to You is magnanimity,'
صاحبِ جود،
وَ لَكَ الْكَرَمُ
to You is generosity,i
صاحبِ کرم،
وَ لَكَ الْاَمْرُ
to You do belong all affairs,
صاحبِ امر،
وَ لَكَ الْمَجْدُ
to You is glory,
صاحبِ بزرگی ہے
وَ لَكَ الشُّكْرُ
and to You is gratitude.
اور تیرے لیے ہی شکر ہے۔
وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَكَ
You are alone without having any partner with You.
تیرا کوئی شریک نہیں ہے۔
يَا وَاحِدُ يَا اَحَدُ يَا صَمَدُ
O One! O Absolute! O Besought of all!
اے خدائے واحد، احد و بے نیاز
يَا مَنْ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَ لَمْ يُوْلَدْ
O He Who neither begets nor is He begotten
جس کا کوئی باپ ہے نہ بیٹا
وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا اَحَدٌ
and there is none like to Him!
نہ کوئی کفو نہ ہمسر۔
صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
(Please do) bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
محمدؐ و آل محمدؐ پر رحمت نازل فرما۔
وَ اغْفِرْ لِيْ وَ ارْحَمْنِيْ
forgive me, have mercy upon me,
مجھے معاف کردے مجھ پر مہربانی کر۔
وَ اكْفِنِيْ مَاۤ اَهَمَّنِيْ
relieve me from whatever has aggrieved me,
میرے مہمات میں کافی ہوجا۔
وَ اقْضِ دَيْنِيْ
help me settle my debt,
میرے قرض کو ادا کردے۔
وَ وَسِّعْ عَلَيَّ فِيْ رِزْقِيْ
and expand my provisions,
میرے رزق میں وسعت عنایت فرما۔
فَاِنَّكَ فِيْ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ كُلَّ اَمْرٍ حَكِيْمٍ تَفْرُقُ
for You, at this night, make distinct all affairs of wisdom,
اس لیے کہ تو آج کی رات تمام محکم امور کا فیصلہ کرتا ہے
وَ مَنْ تَشَاۤءُ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ تَرْزُقُ
and You grant sustenance to whomever You wish among Your creatures.
اور جس کو چاہتا ہے اس کو عطا کردیتا ہے۔
فَارْزُقْنِيْ وَ اَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّازِقِيْنَ
So, (please do) grant me sustenance and You are verily the Best of sustainers.
مجھے بھی عطا کردے اس لیے کہ تو بہترین رزق دینے والا ہے۔
فَاِنَّكَ قُلْتَ وَ اَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْقَاۤئِلِيْنَ وَالنَّاطِقِيْنَ
You have said—and You are the Best of those who speak and utter—
تو نے خود فرمایا ہے اور تو بہترین فرمانے والا ہے کہ
وَ اسْئَلُوْا اللّٰهَ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ
“Ask Allah of His bounty.”
میرے فضل کا سوال کرو۔
فَمِنْ فَضْلِكَ اَسْاَلُ
I thus ask You of Your bounty,
اب میں تیرے فضل کا سوال کرتا ہوں۔
وَ اِيَّاكَ قَصَدْتُ
to You do I turn my face,
میں نے تیرا ارادہ کیا ہے
وَ ابْنَ نَبِيِّكَ اعْتَمَدْتُ
the intercession of Your Prophet’s son do I seek,
اور تیرے فرزندِ رسول پر اعتماد کیا ہے۔
وَ لَكَ رَجَوْتُ
and for You do I hope.
اب تجھ سے امیدوار ہوں کہ
فَارْحَمْنِيْ يَاۤ اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ
So, (please do) have mercy upon me, O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!
مجھ پر رحمت نازل فرما اے ارحم الراحمین۔
Sixth: It is recommended to say this supplicatory prayer, which the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) used to say at this night:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اقْسِمْ لَنَا مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ
O Allah, (please do) grant us an amount of fearfulness of You
خدایا ہمیں اپنے خوف سے وہ حصّہ عطا فرما
مَا يَحُوْلُ بَيْنَنَا وَ بَيْنَ مَعْصِيَتِكَ
that prevents us from committing acts of disobedience to You,
جو ہمارے اور معصیت کے درمیان حائل ہوجائے
وَ مِنْ طَاعَتِكَ مَا تُبَلِّغُنَا بِهِ رِضْوَانَكَ
an amount of obedience to You that makes us attain Your satisfaction,
اور اپنی اطاعت کا وہ حصّہ عطا فرما جو تیری رضا تک پہنچادے
وَ مِنَ الْيَقِيْنِ مَا يَهُوْنُ عَلَيْنَا بِهِ مُصِيْبَاتُ الدُّنْيَا
and an amount of conviction that help us tolerate the vicissitudes of this worldly life.
اور اپنے یقین میں سے وہ حصّہ عطا فرما جو مصائبِ دنیا کو آسان بنادے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ اَمْتِعْنَا بِاَسْمَاعِنَا وَ اَبْصَارِنَا وَ قُوَّتِنَا
O Allah, (please do) make us enjoy our hearings, sights, and powers,
خدایا ہمیں ہماری سماعت، بصارت اور قوّت سے بہرہ ور رکھنا
مَاۤ اَحْيَيْتَنَا وَ اجْعَلْهُ الْوَارِثَ مِنَّا
as long as You decide to keep us alive, and (please do) make it the inheritor of us.
جب تک زندہ رکھنا اور پھر اس کو ہماری وراثت قرار دے دینا۔
وَ اجْعَلْ ثَارَنَا عَلٰى مَنْ ظَلَمَنَا
(Please do) make us avenge ourselves against them who wrong us,
ہمارا انتقام ان لوگوں سے لینا جنھوں نے ہم پر ظلم کیا ہے
وَ انْصُرْنَا عَلٰى مَنْ عَادَانَا
back us against them who antagonize us,
اور ہمارے دشمنوں کے مقابل میں ہماری مدد کرنا۔
وَ لَا تَجْعَلْ مُصِيْبَتَنَا فِيْ دِيْنِنَا
do not make us suffer misfortunes in affairs of our religion,
ہمارے دین میں کوئی مصیبت نہ آنے پائے
وَ لَا تَجْعَلِ الدُّنْيَا اَكْبَرَ هَمِّنَا وَ لَا مَبْلَغَ عِلْمِنَا
do not make our worldly affairs happen to be our greatest concern or our utmost knowledge,
اور دنیا ہماری آخری آرزو نہ بننے پائے اور ہمارے علم کی انتہا نہ قرار پاجائے۔
وَ لَا تُسَلِّطْ عَلَيْنَا مَنْ لَا يَرْحَمُنَا
and do set one who does not have mercy upon us as master over us,
ہم پر کسی ایسے شخص کو مسلّط نہ کردینا جو مہربانی نہ جانتا ہو
بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَاۤ اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ
in the name of Your mercy, O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!
اپنے رحم و کرم سے اے بہترین رحم کرنے والے۔
Actually, this supplicatory prayer is one of the perfect, comprehensive prayers that may be said at all times. In the word of the book of ‘Awali al-La’ali, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) used to say this supplicatory prayer at all times.
Seventh: It is recommended to say the prayers that are preferably said at midday (zohr)s.
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad;
خدایا رحمت نازل فرما محمدؐ و آل محمدؐ پر،
شَجَرَةِ النُّبُوَّةِ
the tree of Prophethood,
جو نبوّت کے شجر،
وَ مَوْضِعِ الرِّسَالَةِ
the trustees of the (Divine) Mission,
رسالت کی منزل،
وَ مُخْتَلَفِ الْمَلَاۤئِكَةِ
the frequently visited by the angels,
ملائکہ کی آمد و رفت کی جگہ
وَ مَعْدِنِ الْعِلْمِ
the core of knowledge,
علم کے معدن
وَ اَهْلِ بَيْتِ الْوَحْيِ
and the Household of the Divine Revelation.
اور وحی کے اہل بیتؑ ہیں۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
خدایا رحمت نازل فرما محمدؐ و آل محمدؐ پر
۟اِلْفُلْكِ الْجَارِيَةِ فِي اللُّجَجِ الْغَامِرَةِ
the sailing ships through the abysmal waves.
جو انتہائی گہرائیوں میں چلنے والے سفینہ ہیں کہ
يَأْمَنُ مَنْ رَكِبَهَا
He who embarks on will be saved
جو ان سے وابستہ ہوگیا وہ امان پاگیا
وَ يَغْرَقُ مَنْ تَرَكَهَا
but he who abandons will be drowned.
جس نے چھوڑ دیا وہ ڈوب گیا۔
اَلْمُتَقَدِّمُ لَهُمْ مَارِقٌ
He who precedes them will miss the Right Path
جو ان سے آگے بڑھ گیا وہ حد سے نکل گیا
وَ الْمُتَاَخِّرُ عَنْهُمْ زَاهِقٌ
and he who misses them will lose,
اور جو پیچھے رہ گیا وہ ہلاک ہوگیا
وَ اللَّازِمُ لَهُمْ لَاحِقٌ
but he who adheres to them will win.
جو ان سے وابستہ ہوگیا وہی ساتھ ہوگیا۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
خدایا محمدؐ و آل محمدؐ پر رحمت نازل فرما
۟اِلْكَهْفِ الْحَصِيْنِ
the impregnable shelter,
جو انتہائی مضبوط پناہ گاہ
وَ غِيَاثِ الْمُضْطَرِّ الْمُسْتَكِيْنِ
the succorers of the helpless, distressed ones,'
مضطر و پریشان حال کے فریاد رس،
وَ مَلْجَاِ الْهَارِبِيْنَ
the haven of the fugitives,
بھاگے ہوئے لوگوں کی پناہ گاہ
وَ عِصْمَةِ الْمُعْتَصِمِيْنَ
and the asylum of those who seek refuge.
اور طالبانِ حفاظت کی حفاظت ہیں۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad
خدایا رحمت نازل فرما محمدؐ و آل محمدؐ پر
صَلَاةً كَثِيْرَةً تَكُوْنُ لَهُمْ رِضًى
so many blessings that please them
بے شمار جو ان کے لیے باعثِ رضا ہو
وَ لِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ اَدَاۤءً وَ قَضَاۤءً
and settle all (our) duties towards Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
اور ان کے حق کی ادائیگی کا سامان ہو۔
بِحَوْلٍ مِنْكَ وَ قُوَّةٍ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ
by Your might and power, O Lo'rd of the worlds!
اپنی حکومت و طاقت کے سہارے اے ربّ العالمین۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
خدایا رحمت نازل فرما محمدؐ و آل محمدؐ پر
۟اِلطَّيِّبِيْنَ الْاَبْرَارِ الْاَخْيَارِ
the pure, pious, and righteous
جو پاکیزہ، نیک کردار اور منتخب بندے ہیں۔
الَّذِيْنَ اَوْجَبْتَ حُقُوْقَهُمْ
whose rights have been made incumbent upon us by You
جن کے حقوق کو تو نے واجب قرار دیا ہے۔
وَ فَرَضْتَ طَاعَتَهُمْ وَ وِلَايَتَهُمْ
and the obedience to whom and whose (divinely ordained) leadership have been (also) deemed obligatory upon us by You.
ان کی اطاعت اور محبّت کو فرض کیا ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
خدایا رحمت نازل فرما محمدؐ و آل محمدؐ پر
وَ اعْمُرْ قَلْبِيْ بِطَاعَتِكَ
fill my heart with obedience to You,
اور میرے دل کو ان کی اطاعت سے معمور کردے
وَ لَا تُخْزِنِيْ بِمَعْصِيَتِكَ
do not disgrace me due to my acts of disobedience to You,
اور مجھے ان کی نافرمانی سے رسوا نہ کر۔
وَ ارْزُقْنِيْ مُوَاسَاةَ مَنْ قَتَّرْتَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ،
and grant me the feeling of sympathy towards those whom You have decided to straiten their sustenance
مجھے توفیق دے کہ جن کو تو نے کم رزق دیا ہے۔ میں ان سے ہمدردی کروں
بِمَا وَسَّعْتَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
by means of Your favors that You have decided to make expansive for me
اس وسعت کے ذریعہ جو تو نے مجھے عنایت فرمائی ہے۔
وَ نَشَرْتَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ عَدْلِكَ
and by means of that with which You have covered me out of Your fairness.
اور جو تو نے مجھ پر اپنے عدل کو پھیلایا ہے
وَ اَحْيَيْتَنِيْ تَحْتَ ظِلِّكَ
Make me live under Your shade.
اور مجھے اپنے زیرِ سایہ زندگی دی ہے۔
وَ هٰذَا شَهْرُ نَبِيِّكَ سَيِّدِ رُسُلِكَ
This is the month of Your Prophet and the Master of Your Messengers.
خدایا یہ تیرے نبی سید المرسلینؐ کا مہینہ شعبان ہے
شَعْبَانُ الَّذِيْ حَفَفْتَهُ مِنْكَ بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَ الرِّضْوَانِ
It is Sha'ban, which You have encompassed with Your mercy and pleasure
اس شعبان کو تو نے رحمت اور رضا میں گھیر دیا ہے
الَّذِيْ كَانَ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰهِ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهِ وَ سَلَّمَ
and on which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his Household,
اس میں رسول اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ و آلہ و سلم
يَدْاَبُ فِيْ صِيَامِهِ وَ قِيَامِهِ
used to observe fasting painstakingly and used to spend it with acts of worship
صلوٰۃ و صیام پابندی کے ساتھ
فِيْ لَيَالِيْهِ وَ اَيَّامِهِ
on all of its days and nights
دن اور رات میں ادا کرتے تھے۔
بُخُوْعًا لَكَ فِيْۤ اِكْرَامِهِ وَ اِعْظَامِهِ
on account of Your honoring and dignifying this month,
اس مہینہ کی عظمت و کرامت کے اظہار کے لیے اور تیری بارگاہ میں خضوع و خشوع کے لیے
اِلٰى مَحَلِّ حِمَامِهِ
up to his death.
جب تک زندہ رہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ فَاَعِنَّا عَلَى الْاِسْتِنَانِ بِسُنَّتِهِ فِيْهِ
O Allah, (please do) help us follow the example of him (i.e. the Holy Prophet as regards the honoring of this month)
خدایا ہماری مدد فرما کہ ہم ان کی سنّت پر عمل کریں
وَ نَيْلِ الشَّفَاعَةِ لَدَيْهِ
and help us attain his intercession for us.
اور ان کی شفاعت حاصل کرلیں۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ اجْعَلْهُ لِيْ شَفِيْعًا مُشَفَّعًا
O Allah, (please do) decide him as my interceder (before You) whose intercession for me is acceptable
خدا انھیں ہمارا شفیع مقبول الشفاعۃ
وَ طَرِيْقًا اِلَيْكَ مَهْيَعًا
and as my clear path toward You,
اور اپنی بارگاہ میں آنے کا وسیلہ بنادے
وَ اجْعَلْنِيْ لَهُ مُتَّبِعًا
and make me follow him
اور ہمیں ان کا پیرو قرار دے دے
حَتّٰى اَلْقَاكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَنِّيْ رَاضِيًا
until I meet You on the Resurrection Day enjoying Your pleasure with me
تا کہ روزِ قیامت تجھ سے ملاقات کریں تو تو ہم سے راضی رہے
وَ عَنْ ذُنُوْبِيْ غَاضِيًا
and Your overlooking my sins
اور ہمارے گناہوں سے چشم پوشی کرے۔
قَدْ اَوْجَبْتَ لِيْ مِنْكَ الرَّحْمَةَ وَ الرِّضْوَانَ
and thus You will confer upon me with Your mercy and pleasure
ہمارے لیے اپنی رحمت و رضا کو لازم قرار دے دے
وَ اَنْزَلْتَنِيْ دَارَ الْقَرَارِ وَ مَحَلَّ الْاَخْيَارِ۔
and allow me to reside in the Eternal Abode and the Place of the Righteous.
اور ہمیں منزلِ قرار اور محلِ اختیار تک پہنچا دے۔
Eighth: It is recommended to say the famous supplicatory prayer known as Dua Kumayl, which has been cited in the previous section of this book. Narrations have mentioned that it is highly advisable to say this famous supplicatory prayer at this night.
Ninth: It is recommended to mention Almighty Allah by the following litany one hundred times so that one’s past acts of disobedience to Him will be forgiven and one’s worldly and religious needs will be granted:
سُبْحَانَ اللهِ
All glory be to Allah,
خدا پاکیزہ ہے
وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ
all praise be to Allah,
اور حمد اسی کے لیے ہے
وَ اللهُ اَكْبَرُ
there is no god save Allah,
اور خدا بزرگ تر ہے
وَ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ
and Allah is the Greatest.
اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں
Tenth: Shaykh al-Tusi, in Misbah al-Mutahajjid, has narrated a tradition about the merits of the night of mid-Sha’ban entailing that Abu-Yahya asked Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq(a.s.) about the best of supplicatory prayers to be said at this night. The Imam (a.s.) instructed him, saying:
After you accomplish the obligatory Isha’ Prayer, you may offer a two unit prayer in the first unit of which you should recite Surah al-Faatehah and Surah al-Kafirun and in the second Surah al-Faatehah and Surah al-Tawheed. When you accomplish the prayer, you may repeat (the phrase of) subhanallah thirty-three times, (the phrase of) alhamdulillah thirty-three times, and (the phrase of) Allahu-akbar thirty-four times. You may then say the following supplicatory prayer:
يَا مَنْ اِلَيْهِ مَلْجَاُ الْعِبَادِ فِي الْمُهِمَّاتِ
O He to Whom the servants (of Him) resort in urgencies
اے وہ ذات جس کی طرف مشکلات میں بندوں کی پناہ ہے
وَ اِلَيْهِ يَفْزَعُ الْخَلْقُ فِي الْمُلِمَّاتِ
and to Whom the creatures turn in ordeals!
اور جس کی طرف مخلوقات مصائب میں فریاد کرتی ہیں۔
يَا عَالِمَ الْجَهْرِ وَ الْخَفِيَّاتِ
O He Who knows the open and the hidden matters!
اے ظاہر و باطن کے جاننے والے۔
يَا مَنْ لَا تَخْفٰى عَلَيْهِ خَوَاطِرُ الْاَوْهَامِ وَ تَصَرُّفُ الْخَطَرَاتِ
O He from Whom neither the ideas of illusions nor the initiatives of delusions can be concealed!
اے وہ جس پر دلوں کے خیالات اور خیالوں کے تصرّفات مخفی نہیں ہیں۔
يَا رَبَّ الْخَلَاۤئِقِ وَ الْبَرِيَّاتِ
O Lord of creatures and beings!
اے تمام مخلوقات کے پروردگار۔
يَا مَنْ بِيَدِهِ مَلَكُوْتُ الْاَرَضِيْنَ وَ السَّمَاوَاتِ
O He Who grasps the kingdoms of the earth and the heavens!
اے وہ جس کے ہاتھوں میں زمین وآسمان کی کل حکومت ہے۔
اَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ
You are verily Allah; there is no god save You!
تو وہ خدا ہے جس کے علاوہ کوئی خدا نہیں ہے۔
اَمُتُّ اِلَيْكَ بِلَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ
I thus try to connect with you in the name of ‘There is no god save You;’
میں تجھ سے لا الٰہ الا اللہ کے ذریعہ پناہ چاہتا ہوں۔
فَيَا لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ
so, O He save Whom there is no god,
اے وہ خدا جس کے علاوہ کوئی خدا نہیں ہے۔
اجْعَلْنِيْ فِيْ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ مِمَّنْ نَظَرْتَ اِلَيْهِ فَرَحِمْتَهُ
(please) include me at this night with those at whom You have looked and thus You have mercy upon them,
مجھے آج کی رات ان لوگوں میں قرار دے دے جن پر تو نے نگاہِ رحمت کی ہے
وَ سَمِعْتَ دُعَاۤءَهُ فَاَجَبْتَهُ
with those whose prayers have been heard by You and thus You have responded to them,
اور جن کی دعاؤں کو سن کر قبول کیا ہے۔
وَ عَلِمْتَ اسْتِقَالَتَهُ فَاَقَلْتَهُ
and with those whose true repentance has been admitted by You and thus You have accepted it
جن کی لغزشوں کو معاف کیا ہے۔
وَ تَجَاوَزْتَ عَنْ سَالِفِ خَطِيْۤئَتِهِ وَ عَظِيْمِ جَرِيْرَتِهِ
and overlooked their past sins and enormous offenses.
جن کی خطاؤں اور جرائم سے درگذر کیا ہے۔
فَقَدِ اسْتَجَرْتُ بِكَ مِنْ ذُنُوْبِيْ
verily, I am seeking Your shelter against my sins
میں بھی اپنے گناہوں میں تیری پناہ چاہتا ہوں
وَ لَجَأْتُ اِلَيْكَ فِيْ سَتْرِ عُيُوْبِيْۤ
and resorting to You so that You may conceal my defects.
اور اپنے عیوب کی پردہ پوشی میں تیری طرف ملتجی ہوں۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ فَجُدْ عَلَيَّ بِكَرَمِكَ وَ فَضْلِكَ
O Allah, (please) bestow generously upon me with Your generosity and Favor,
خدایا اپنے فضل و کرم سے میرے اوپر احسان فرما
وَ احْطُطْ خَطَايَايَ بِحِلْمِكَ وَ عَفْوِكَ
condone my misdeeds out of Your forbearance and pardon,
اور اپنے حلم و عفو سے میری خطا کو معاف کردے۔
وَ تَغَمَّدْنِيْ فِيْ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ بِسَابِغِ كَرَامَتِكَ
and encompass me, at this night, with Your opulent honoring,
آج کی رات مجھے اپنی مکمل کرامت میں ڈھانپ لے
وَ اجْعَلْنِيْ فِيْهَا مِنْ اَوْلِيَاۤئِكَ الَّذِيْنَ اجْتَبَيْتَهُمْ لِطَاعَتِكَ
and include me at this night with Your intimate servants whom You have selected for obeying You,
اور ان بندوں میں قرار دے دے جن کو تو نے اطاعت کے لیے چُن لیا ہے
وَ اخْتَرْتَهُمْ لِعِبَادَتِكَ
whom You have chosen for worshipping You,
اور عبادت کے لیے منتخب کیا ہے
وَ جَعَلْتَهُمْ خَالِصَتَكَ وَ صَفْوَتَكَ۔
and whom You have made Your elite and select people.
اور اپنے خالص بندوں میں قرار دیا ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِيْ مِمَّنْ سَعَدَ جَدُّهُ
O Allah, (please) make me of those whose efforts are of a happy end
خدایا مجھے ان میں قرار دے دے جو نیک بخت ہوں
وَ تَوَفَّرَ مِنَ الْخَيْرَاتِ حَظُّهُ
and those whose shares of good things are big,
اور جن کا حصّہ نیکیوں میں وافر ہو
وَ اجْعَلْنِيْ مِمَّنْ سَلِمَ فَنَعِمَ
make me of those who enjoy blissful life as they have been safe (from sins),
اور جن کو سلامتی کے ساتھ نعمت ملی
وَ فَازَ فَغَنِمَ
and those who have been awarded excellently as they have won,
اور کامیابی کے ساتھ منافع حاصل ہوئے۔
وَ اكْفِنِيْ شَرَّ مَاۤ اَسْلَفْتُ
rescue me from the evil consequences of what I have committed,
مجھے گذشتہ اعمال کے شر سے محفوظ رکھنا
وَ اعْصِمْنِيْ مِنَ الْاِزْدِيَادِ فِيْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ
save me from doing more acts of disobedience to You,
اور معصیتوں میں اضافہ سے روکے رکھنا۔
وَ حَبِّبْ اِلَيَّ طَاعَتَكَ وَ مَا يُقَرِّبُنِيْ مِنْكَ وَ يُزْلِفُنِيْ عِنْدَكَ
and make me love the acts of obedience to You and whatever draws me nearer to You and approaches me towards You.
میرے لیے اپنی اطاعت کو اور تقرّب کے اعمال کو محبوب بنا دے۔
سَيِّدِيْۤ اِلَيْكَ يَلْجَاُ الْهَارِبُ
O my Master, a fugitive resorts to none save You,
خدایا ہر بھاگنے والا تیری پناہ چاہتا ہے
وَ مِنْكَ يَلْتَمِسُ الطَّالِبُ
a needy begs none save You,
اور ہر طلبگار تجھ سے التماس کرتا ہے
وَ عَلٰى كَرَمِكَ يُعَوِّلُ الْمُسْتَقِيْلُ التَّاۤئِبُ
and only on Your generosity does a repentant and contrite depends.
اور ہر توبہ کرنے والا تیرے کرم پر بھروسہ کرتا ہے کہ
اَدَّبْتَ عِبَادَكَ بِالتَّكَرُّمِ وَ اَنْتَ اَكْرَمُ الْاَكْرَمِيْنَ
You have disciplined Your servants by means of generosity, and You are verily the most Generous of all those who are generous.
تو نے اپنے بندوں کو کرم سکھایا ہے تو تو سب سے زیادہ کرم کرنے والا ہے۔
وَ اَمَرْتَ بِالْعَفْوِ عِبَادَكَ وَ اَنْتَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْمُ
You have instructed Your servants to pardon, and You are verily the All-forgiving, the All-merciful.
تو نے اپنے بندوں کو معافی کا حکم دیا ہے۔ تو تو غفور و رحیم ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ فَلَا تَحْرِمْنِيْ مَا رَجَوْتُ مِنْ كَرَمِكَ
O Allah, (please) do not deprive me of Your generosity for which I hope,
خدایا میں تیرے جس کرم کی امید رکھتا ہوں اس سے محروم نہ کرنا
وَ لَا تُؤْيِسْنِيْ مِنْ سَابِغِ نِعَمِكَ
do not make me despair of Your opulent bounties,
اور جو نعمتیں چاہتا ہوں ان سے مایوس نہ کرنا۔
وَ لَا تُخَيِّبْنِيْ مِنْ جَزِيْلِ قِسَمِكَ فِيْ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ لِاَهْلِ طَاعَتِكَ
do not disappoint me ofYour abundant sustenance that You decide, this night, for those who are obedient to You,
اور آج کی رات جو اہلِ طاعات کا بہترین حصّہ ہے اس سے نا امید نہ کرنا۔
وَ اجْعَلْنِيْ فِيْ جُنَّةٍ مِنْ شِرَارِ بَرِيَّتِكَ
and include me with Your protection against Your evil creatures.
بدترین بندوں کے شر سے اپنی پناہ میں رکھنا۔
رَبِّ اِنْ لَمْ اَكُنْ مِنْ اَهْلِ ذٰلِكَ
O my Lord, if I do not deserve so,
خدایا اگر میں اس کا اہل نہیں ہوں تو
فَاَنْتَ اَهْلُ الْكَرَمِ وَ الْعَفْوِ وَ الْمَغْفِرَةِ،
then You are worth acting generously to me, pardoning, and forgiving me.
تو اہلِ کرم و عفو و مغفرت ہے۔
وَ جُدْ عَلَيَّ بِمَاۤ اَنْتَ اَهْلُهُ لَا بِمَاۤ اَسْتَحِقُّهُ
(Please) bestow upon me magnanimously according to that which befits You, not according to what I deserve.
اب مجھ پر وہ کرم فرما جس کا تو اہل ہے۔ وہ نہیں جس کا میں مستحق ہوں۔
فَقَدْ حَسُنَ ظَنِّيْ بِكَ
Verily, I carry an excellent opinion about You,
میں تجھ سے حُسنِ ظن رکھتا ہوں
وَ تَحَقَّقَ رَجَاۤئِيْ لَكَ
I do hope for You,
اور میری امید تیری ہی ذات سے ہے۔
وَ عَلِقَتْ نَفْسِيْ بِكَرَمِكَ
and my self is hanged to the rope of Your generosity,
میرا نفس تیرے کرم سے وابستہ ہے کہ
فَاَنْتَ اَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ
for You are verily the most Merciful of all those who show mercy
تو ارحم الراحمین
وَ اَكْرَمُ الْاَكْرَمِيْنَ
and the most Generous of all those who are generous.
اور اکرم الاکرمین ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ اخْصُصْنِيْ مِنْ كَرَمِكَ بِجَزِيْلِ قِسَمِكَ
O Allah, (please) confer upon me exclusively with an abundant share of what You decide, out of Your generosity.
خدایا اپنے کرم کے بہترین حصّے سے مجھ کو مخصوص کردے
وَ اَعُوْذُ بِعَفْوِكَ مِنْ عُقُوْبَتِكَ
I seek refuge with Your pardon against Your chastisement.
اور میں تیری سزا سے تیری معافی کی پناہ میں آیا ہوں
وَ اغْفِرْ لِيَ الذَّنْبَ الَّذِيْ يَحْبِسُ عَلَيَّ الْخُلُقَ
(Please) forgive me the sin that prevents me from enjoying high morals
لہٰذا میرے گناہوں کو معاف کردے جو اخلاق کو بگاڑدیں
وَ يُضَيِّقُ عَلَيَّ الرِّزْقَ
and suppresses my sustenance,
اور رزق کو تنگ بنادیں
حَتّٰىۤ اَقُوْمَ بِصَالِحِ رِضَاكَ
so that I will accomplish what excellently achieves Your satisfaction,
تا کہ میں تیری رضا کے لیے نیک کام کرسکوں
وَ اَنْعَمَ بِجَزِيْلِ عَطَاۤئِكَ
I will enjoy Your profuse granting,
اور تیری عطاؤں سے بہرہ ور ہوسکوں،
وَ اَسْعَدَ بِسَابِغِ نَعْمَاۤئِكَ
and I will be delighted by Your abundant bounties.
تیری مکمل نعمتوں سے نیک بخت ہو سکوں۔
فَقَدْ لُذْتُ بِحَرَمِكَ
I am having recourse to Your sanctity,
میں تیرے حرم کی پناہ گاہ میں
وَ تَعَرَّضْتُ لِكَرَمِكَ
asking for Your generosity,
تیرے کرم کا طلبگار ہوں۔
وَ اسْتَعَذْتُ بِعَفْوِكَ مِنْ عُقُوْبَتِكَ
and taking shelter in Your pardon against Your punishment
تیرے عذاب کے مقابلے میں تیری معافی کا طالب ہوں
وَ بِحِلْمِكَ مِنْ غَضَبِكَ
and in Your forbearance against Your ire.
اور تیرے غضب کے مقابلہ میں تیرا حلم چاہتا ہوں۔
فَجُدْ بِمَا سَاَلْتُكَ
So, (please) bestow upon me generously with that which I have asked from You
خدایا جو مانگ رہا ہوں وہ دے دے
وَ اَنِلْ مَا الْتَمَسْتُ مِنْكَ
and confer upon me with that which I have begged from You.
اور جس کی التماس کررہا ہوں وہ عطا کردے
اَسْاَلُكَ بِكَ لَا بِشَيْءٍ هُوَ اَعْظَمُ مِنْكَ۔
I beseech You in Your name, since there is nothing great that You are.
میں تجھ سے تیرے ہی وسیلے سے سوال کرتا ہوں نہ کسی ایسے کے وسیلے سے جو تجھ سے بالاتر ہو۔
You may prostrate yourself and repeat the following supplicatory phrase twenty times:
يَا رَبِّ
O my Lord!
اے رب
And then repeat the following phrase seven times:
يَا اَللهُ
O Allah!
اے اللہ
And then repeat the following phrase seven times:
لَاحَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ اِلَّا بِاللهِ
There is neither might nor power save with Allah.
کوئی طاقت نہیں ہے مگر وہ بلند قوّت و بزرگ خدا سے ہے
And then repeat the following phrase ten times:
مَاشَااَللهُ
Only that which Allah wants (will come to pass).
جو کچھ خدا چاہے
And then repeat the following phrase ten times:
لَاقُوَّةَ اِلَّا بِاللهِ
There is no power save with Allah.
نہیں کوئی قوّت مگر خدا کی
You may then invoke Almighty Allah’s blessings upon the Holy Prophet and beseech Him to grant your requests.
By Allah I swear, even if you pray for things that are as many as raindrops, Almighty Allah, out of His generosity and favors, will grant them all.
Eleventh: Shaykh al-Tusi and Shaykh al-Kaf’ami say: It is suitable to say the following supplicatory prayer at this night:
اِلٰهِيْ تَعَرَّضَ لَكَ فِي هٰذَا اللَّيْلِ الْمُتَعَرِّضُوْنَ
O Allah! Tonight, the seekers of favors, restless and eager, present themselves to You,
خدایا آج کی رات تمام طلبگاروں نے تجھ سے طلب کیا ہے۔
وَ قَصَدَكَ الْقَاصِدُوْنَ
the determined aspirers have You in mind,
تمام مریدوں نے تیرا ارادہ کیا ہے
وَ اَمَّلَ فَضْلَكَ وَ مَعْرُوْفَكَ الطَّالِبُوْنَ
and those who make requests look long and attentively at Your obligingness and kindness.
اور تمام سائلوں نے تیرے فضل و کرم سے امید رکھی ہے۔
وَ لَكَ فِيْ هٰذَا اللَّيْلِ نَفَحَاتٌ وَ جَوَاۤئِزُ
You, at this night, give gifts, bounties beyond measure,
آج کی رات تیری طرف سے الطاف ہیں، جائزے ہیں۔
وَ عَطَايَا وَ مَوَاهِبُ
free donations, and favors
عطایا ہیں، انعامات ہیں
تَمُنُّ بِهَا عَلٰى مَنْ تَشَاۤءُ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ
to those whom You will from among Your servants when they make a request,
تو جن کو چاہتا ہے دے دیتا ہے
وَ تَمْنَعُهَا مَنْ لَمْ تَسْبِقْ لَهُ الْعِنَايَةُ مِنْكَ
and You say no to those who do not try to get in advance (i.e. remain behind) for obtaining the bounties from You.
اور جن پر تیری عنایت نہیں ہے انھیں منع کردیتا ہے۔
وَ هَاۤ اَنَا ذَا عُبَيْدُكَ الْفَقِيْرُ اِلَيْكَ
I, a modest needy bondman,
میں تو تیرا بندۂ حقیر و فقیر
الْمُؤَمِّلُ فَضْلَكَ وَ مَعْرُوْفَكَ
am hopeful of Your obligingness and kindness.
اور تیرے فضل و کرم کا امیدوار ہوں۔
فَاِنْ كُنْتَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
Indeed, if You, O My Master,
خدایا آج کی رات اگر تو نے
تَفَضَّلْتَ فِيْ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ
bestows a favor on any one, at this night,
کسی بندے پر فضل کیا ہے
عَلٰىۤ اَحَدٍ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ
from among Your
اور اگر کسی بندہ پر
وَ عُدْتَ عَلَيْهِ بِعَاۤئِدَةٍ مِنْ عَطْفِكَ
created beings, and multiply profits and gains for him out of Your love and affection,
کوئی مہربانی کی ہے
فَصَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
please send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad:
تو محمدؐ و آل محمدؐ پر رحمت نازل فرمانا
۟اِلطَّيِّبِيْنَ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ
the pure, the immaculate,
جو تیرے طیب و طاہر،
الْخَيِّرِيْنَ الْفَاضِلِيْنَ
the virtuous, and the righteous,
منتخب اور فاضل بندے ہیں
وَ جُدْ عَلَيَّ بِطَوْلِكَ وَ مَعْرُوْفِكَ
and then give me abundantly on account of Your liberality and obligingness,
اور مجھ پر اپنے فضل و کرم سے مہربانی فرما دینا
يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ
O Lord of the worlds!
اے عالمین کے پالنے والے۔
وَ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ
May Allah send blessings to Muhammad, the seal of the Prophets,
اللہ کی رحمت ہو حضرت محمدؐ خاتم النبیین پر
وَ اٰلِهِ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ
and upon his Household, the immaculate,
اور ان کی آل طاہرینؑ پر
وَ سَلَّمَ تَسْلِيْمًا
and may He exalt them very much.
اور سلام ہو بے شمار ان سب پر۔
اِنَّ اللّٰهَ حَمِيْدٌ مَجِيْدٌ
Verily, Allah is worthy of all praise, full of all glory.
اللہ قابلِ حمد بھی ہے اور مجید بھی ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْۤ اَدْعُوْكَ كَمَاۤ اَمَرْتَ
O Allah, I am praying You as You ordered me to do;
خدایا میں تجھ سے ویسے ہی دعا کرتا ہوں جیسے تو نے حکم دیا تو
فَاسْتَجِبْ لِيْ كَمَا وَعَدْتَ
so, (please) respond to me as You promised.
تو ایسے ہی قبول کرلینا جیسے تو نے وعدہ کیا ہے
اِنَّكَ لَا تُخْلِفُ الْمِيْعَادَ۔
Verily, You never break Your promise.
کہ تو اپنے وعدہ کے خلاف نہیں کرتا ہے۔
It is worth mentioning that this supplicatory prayer is advisably said immediately after the accomplishment of the Shaf’ Prayer at the last hours of night.
Twelfth: It is recommended to say the supplicatory prayer narrated by Shaykh al-Tusi and Sayyid Ibn Tawus after each two units of the Night Prayer (Salat al-Layl), the Shaf’ Prayer, and the Witr Prayer.
Thirteenth: It is recommended to do the prostrations and say the supplicatory prayers that are reported from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.). One of these is that Shaykh al-Tusi has narrated on the authority of Hammad ibn ‘Isa on the authority of Aban ibn Taghlib on the authority of Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq(a.s.) recounted the following:
It was the fifteenth night of Sha’ban when the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) was with ‘A’ishah, his wife. At midnight, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) left the bed. When ‘A’ishah woke up and could not find him, she felt jealous and thought that he had joined one of his other wives. She therefore left her bed and put on her cloak, which was made of neither silk, nor linen, nor cotton; rather, it was made of camel hair. In any event, ‘A’ishah searched for the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) in all of the rooms of his other wives but she found him prostrating himself on the ground like a thrown dress. As she approached, she heard him saying:
سَجَدَ لَكَ سَوَادِيْ وَ خَيَالِيْ
Prostrating before You are my body and my shadow.
پروردگار تیری بارگاہ میں میرا وجود، میرا خیال سجدہ ریز ہیں۔
وَ اٰمَنَ بِكَ فُؤَادِيْ
My heart is full of faith of You.
میرا دل تیرا معتقد ہے۔
هٰذِهِ يَدَايَ وَ مَا جَنَيْتُهُ عَلٰى نَفْسِيْ
These are my two hands and this is what I have committed against myself.
یہ میرے دونوں ہاتھ اور ان کے اعمال ہیں جو میں نے انجام دیئے ہیں۔
يَا عَظِيْمُ تُرْجٰى لِكُلِّ عَظِيْمٍ
O All-great! You are hoped for all enormous things.
تو خدائے عظیم ہے۔ ہر عظیم کے لیے تجھ سے ہی امید کی جاتی ہے۔
اِغْفِرْ لِيَ الْعَظِيْمَ
Please, forgive me my serious offences,
میرے عظیم گناہوں کو معاف کردے
فَاِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ الْعَظِيْمَ اِلَّا الرَّبُّ الْعَظِيْمُ۔
because none can forgive the serious sin except the All-great Lord.
اس لیے کہ عظیم گناہوں کو سوائے خدائے عظیم کے کوئی معاف نہیں کرسکتا ہے۔
The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) then raised his head and then prostrated himself again, saying:
اَعُوْذُ بِنُوْرِ وَجْهِكَ
I seek the protection of the light of Your Face
خدایا میں تیرے نورِ ذات سے پناہ چاہتا ہوں
الَّذِيْۤ اَضَاۤءَتْ لَهُ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَ الْاَرَضُوْنَ
that has lit the heavens and the earth,
جس سے زمین و آسمان روشن ہیں
وَ انْكَشَفَتْ لَهُ الظُّلُمَاتُ
removed all darkness,
اور ظلمتیں چَھٹ گئی ہیں
وَ صَلَحَ عَلَيْهِ اَمْرُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَ الْاٰخِرِيْنَ
and made active all the affairs of the past and the coming generations
اور اوّلین و آخرین کے امور کی اصلاح ہوئی ہے کہ
مِنْ فُجْاَةِ نَقِمَتِكَ
against Your sudden chastisement,
اچانک تیرا عذاب نازل نہ ہوجائے
وَ مِنْ تَحْوِيْلِ عَافِيَتِكَ
against withdrawing the good health that You have granted me,
اور یہ عافیت پلٹ نہ جائے۔
وَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ
and against the vanishing of Your bounties.
یہ نعمتیں زائل نہ ہوجائیں۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِيْ قَلْبًا تَقِيًّا نَقِيًّا
O Allah, (please) grant me a heart that is pious and pure,
خدایا مجھے وہ دل دے جو خوف زدہ، پاکیزہ
وَ مِنَ الشِّرْكِ بَرِيْئًا
released from polytheism,
اور شرک سے بری ہو
لَا كَافِرًا وَ لَا شَقِيًّا
and neither atheist nor unhappy.
نہ کافر ہو اور نہ شقی ہو۔
The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) then attached his face to the ground and said:
عَفَّرْتُ وَجْهِيْ فِيْ التُّرَابِ
I am putting my face on the ground
میں اپنے چہرے کو خاک پر رکھے ہوئے ہوں
وَ حُقَّ لِيْۤ اَنْ اَسْجُدَ لَكَ۔
and it is my duty to prostrate myself before You.
اور یہ میرا فرض ہے کہ میں تجھے سجدہ کروں۔
When the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) accomplished these acts of worship and directed towards his bed, ‘A’ishah ran before him until she reached the bed before he did. When he heard her speedy breathes, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) wondered. He then said, “Do you know what this night is? This is the mid-Sha’ban night. At this night, shares of provisions are distributed, lifetimes are decided, and the pilgrims are appointed. Verily, Almighty Allah, at this night, forgives as many of His creatures as the hairs of the horses of Kalb Tribe. Almighty Allah also orders angels to descend to the earth, to Makkah, at this night.
Fourteenth: It is recommended to offer the famous Ja’far al-Tayyar’s Prayer (Salat Ja’far) as is narrated by Shaykh al-Tusi from Imam al-Rida(a.s.).
Fifteenth: It is recommended to offer the prayers that are dedicated to this night. In fact, these prayers are many. One of them is what is reported by Abu-Yahya al-San’ani, as well as other thirty trustworthy reporters, from Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) and Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq(a.s.) as follows:
At the mid-Sha’ban night, you may offer a four unit prayer in each unit of which you may recite Surah al-Faatehah once and Surah al-Tawheed one hundred times. After accomplishment, you may say the following supplicatory prayer:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْۤ اِلَيْكَ فَقِيْرٌ
O Allah, I am in need for You
خدایا میں تیرا ہی فقیر ہوں
وَ مِنْ عَذَابِكَ خَاۤئِفٌ مُسْتَجِيْرٌ
and I am fearful of You, seeking Your shelter against Your chastisement.
اور تیرے عذاب سے خوف زدہ ہوں۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ لَا تُبَدِّلْ اِسْمِيْ
O Allah, (please) do not erase my name,
مالک میرے نام کو بدل نہ دینا
وَ لَا تُغَيِّرْ جِسْمِيْ
do not change my body,
اور میرے جسم کو دگرگوں نہ کردینا۔
وَ لَا تَجْهَدْ بَلَاۤئِيْ
do not increase my ordeals,
میری بلاؤں کو سخت نہ کردینا
وَ لَا تُشْمِتْ بِيْۤ اَعْدَاۤئِيْۤ
and do not make my enemies rejoice at my misfortune.
اور میرے دشمنوں کو طعنے کا موقع نہ دینا۔
اَعُوْذُ بِعَفْوِكَ مِنْ عِقَابِكَ
I resort to Your pardon against Your punishment,
خدایا میں تیرے عذاب سے تیری معافی کی پناہ چاہتا ہوں
وَ اَعُوْذُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِكَ
I resort to Your mercy against Your chastisement,
اور تیرے عقاب سے تیری رحمت کا سہارا چاہتا ہوں۔
وَ اَعُوْذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ
I resort to Your pleasure against Your wrath,
تیری ناراضگی سے تیری رضا
وَ اَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْكَ
and I resort to You against You.
اور تجھ سے ہی پناہ چاہتا ہوں۔
جَلَّ ثَنَاۤؤُكَ
Enormous be the praise of You.
تیری ثنا جلیل ہے
اَنْتَ كَمَا اَثْنَيْتَ عَلٰى نَفْسِكَ
You are as exactly as You have praised Yourself
جس طرح تو نے اپنی تعریف کی ہے
وَ فَوْقَ مَا يَقُوْلُ الْقَاۤئِلُوْنَ۔
and above all that which is said about You.
اور اس سے بالاتر ہے جو تمام تعریف کرنے والے کرتے ہیں۔
It is worth mentioning that traditions have decided a great reward for one who offers a one hundred unit prayer at this night; in each unit, Surah al-Faatehah is recited once and Surah al-Tawheed ten times.
It has been previously mentioned, within the rites of Rajab, that it is recommended to offer a prayer composing of six units in each of which Surahs al-Faatehah, Yasin, al-Mulk, and al-Tawheed are recited.
