دفن میت کے آداب
When the coffin is brought to the grave, it must be left at the backside of it. Then, it must be approached towards the grave in three stages. If the dead person is a woman, then the coffin must be put in front of the greave towards the kiblah direction. Then, the dead person’s heir or the person deputized by the heir to do so may go down the grave. Meanwhile, he is recommended to say this supplicatory prayer:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا رَوْضَةَ مِنْ رِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ،
O Allah, (please) make this grave to be one of the gardens of Paradise,
خدایا اس کی قبر کو جنّت کے باغات میں سے ایک باغ قرار دے دے
وَ لَا تَجْعَلْهَا حُفْرَةً مِنْ حُفَرِ النَّارِ۔
but do not make it to be one of the holes of the Fire.
اور جہنّم کے گڑھوں میں سے کوئی گڑھا قرار نہ دے۔
The burier is required to go down to the grave barefooted, bareheaded, and having the buttons of his shirt unfastened. Receiving the dead body, he should begin with the head to take it down to the grave. Meanwhile, he should say these words:
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ وَ بِاللّٰهِ
In the Name of Allah, in Allah,
خدا کے نام سے خدا کی ذات سے
وَ فِىْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِ
on the way of Allah,
اللہ ہی کی راہ میں
وَ عَلٰى مِلَّةِ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ
and following the principles of Allah’s Messengers.
اور رسول اللہ کی ملّت پر
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِيْمَانًا بِكَ
O Allah, (this is on the basis of the) belief in You
خدایا تجھ پر ایمان
وَ تَصْدِيْقًا بِكِتَابِكَ
and giving credence to Your Book.
اور تیری کتابوں کی تصدیق کررہا ہوں
هٰذَا مَا وَعَدَنَا اللّٰهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ
This is what Allah and His Messenger promised us,
یہی وہ چیز ہے جس کا اللہ اور رسول نے وعدہ کیا ہے
وَ صَدَقَ اللّٰهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ
and Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth.
اور خدا و رسول نے سچ فرمایا ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ زِدْنَا اِيْمَانًا وَ تَسْلِيْمًا۔
O Allah, (pleas) increase us faith and submission (to You).
پروردگار ہمارے ایمان اور تسلیم میں اضافہ فرما۔
Then, the burier should make the dead body lie down on the right side facing the kiblah direction. He should then unknot the knots of the shrouds from the sides of the head and the legs. He should then put the cheek of the dead person on the soil. It is recommended to put with the dead body an amount of soil taken from the tomb of Imam al-Husayn (‘a). He should then line up bricks on the dead body and say these words meanwhile:
اَللّٰهُمَّ صِلْ وَحْدَتَهُ
O Allah, (please) maintain (communion) his loneliness,
خدایا اس مرنے والے کی وحدت
وَ اٰنِسْ وَحْشَتَهُ
entertain his lonesomeness,
اور وحشت پر رحم فرما
وَارْحَمْ غُرْبَتَهُ
have mercy upon his seclusion,
اس کی غربت پر رحم فرما
وَاَسْكِنْ اِلَيْهِ مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ
put with him part of Your mercy
اور اپنی رحمت سے وہ سکون عطا فرما
رَحْمَةً يَسْتَغْنِىْ بِهَا عَنْ رَحْمَةِ مَنْ سِوَاكَ
due to which he will dispense with the mercy of any one other than You,
کہ ہر ایک کی رحمت سے بے نیاز ہوجائے۔
وَاحْشُرْهُ مَعَ مَنْ كَانَ يَتَوَلَّاهُ
and resurrect him with those to whom he has been loyal;
اسے ان ائمہ طاہرینؑ کے ساتھ محشور کرنا
مِنَ الْاَئِمَّةِ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ۔
namely, the Immaculate Imams, peace be upon them.
جن سے اس نے اس دنیا میں محبت کی ہے۔
PROMPTING THE DEAD
Before lining up bricks, it is recommended to prompt the dead person to say the two creeds of Islam and the Holy Imams by names. Hence, the prompter, addressing the dead person, should say:
يَا۔۔۔بِنْ۔۔۔
O [so-and-so] the son of [so-and-so]
جانے والے
اُذْكُرِ الْعَهْدَ الَّذِىْ خَرَجْتَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ دَارِ الدُّنْيَا
remember the covenant on which you have departed the abode of this world:
اس عہد کو یاد رکھنا جس پر تو دارِ دنیا سے نکلا ہے۔
شَهَادَةَ اَنْ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ
the profession that there is no god save Allah,
اللہ کی وحدانیت
وَحْدَهُ لَاشَرِيْكَ لَهُ
One and Only and having no associate,
کی شہادت،
وَ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ
that Muhammad is His servant and messenger,
پیغمبرؐ کی بندگی اور رسالت کی گواہی
وَ اَنَّ عَلِيًّا اَمِيْرُالْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ
and that 'Ali the Commander of the Faithful,
اور علیؑ امیرالمومنین،
وَالْحَسَنَ وَالْحُسَيْنَ
al-Hasan, al-Husayn,
حسنؑ و حسینؑ
وَ عَلِىَّ بْنَ الْحُسَيْنَِ
'Ali the son of al-Husayn,
علیؑ ابن الحسینؑ،
وَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ
Muhammad the son of 'Ali,
محمدؑ ابن علیؑ،
وَ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ
Ja'far the son of Muhammad,
جعفرؑ ابن محمدؑ،
وَ مُوْسَىٰ بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ
Musa the son of Ja'far,
موسیٰؑ ابن جعفرؑ،
وَ عَلِىَّ بْنَ مُوْسىٰ
'Ali the son of Musa,
علیؑ ابن موسیٰؑ،
وَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ
Muhammad the son of 'Ali,
محمدؑ ابن علیؑ،
وَ عَلِىَّ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ
'Ali the son of Muhammad,
علیؑ ابن محمدؑ،
وَالْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلِىٍّ
al-Hasan the son of 'Ali,
حسنؑ ابن علیؑ
وَالقَاۤئِمَ الْحُجَّةَ الْمَهْدِىَّ
and the Rising Argument-person,
اور حضرت قائم حجتؑ ہیں۔
عَلَيْهم السَّلَامُ
peace be upon them all
درود و سلام ہو ان پر
اَئِمَتُّكَ اَئِمَّةُ الْهُدٰى اَلْاَبْرَارِ
are your Imams. They are the pious leaders to true guidance.
اور تمام ائمہؑ کے امام اور ہادی و رہنما ہونے کا اقرار۔
Upon accomplishing lining up the bricks, the burier, as well as all the attendants advisably using the backsides of their hands, should pour down dust on the dead body. Meanwhile, they are recommended to say these words:
اِنَّا لِلّٰهِ وَ اِنَّاۤ اِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُوْنَ
We are Allah’s and to Him shall we return.
یقیناً ہم ﷲ کے ہیں اور اسی کی طرف لوٹیں گے،
هٰذَا مَا وَعَدَنَا اللّٰهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ
This is what Allah and His Messenger promised us,
یہی وہ چیز ہے جس کا وعدہ ہم سے ﷲ و رسولؐ نے کیا
وَ صَدَقَ اللّٰهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ
and Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth.
اور ﷲ اور اس کے رسولؐ نے سچ فرمایا،
اَللّٰهُمَّ زِدْنَا اِيْمَانًا وَ تَسْلِيْمًا۔
O Allah, (please) increase us faith and submission (to You).
اے معبود! ہمارے ایمان و یقین میں اضافہ فرما۔
