عہد نامہ میت
Shaykh al-Tusi adds: The inscription that should be written down on the document-paper that is put with the palm-leaf stalk with the dead should be as follows. However, before writing down this inscription, the writer is advised to say the following words:
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
In the Name of Allah; the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
خدا کے نام سے جو بڑا مہربان اور نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لَّاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ
I bear witness that there is no god save Allah,
میں شہادت دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے علاوہ کوئی خدا نہیں ہے
وَحْدَهُ لَاشَرِيْكَ لَهُ
One and Only Lord and having no associate with Him.
کوئی اس کا شریک نہیں
وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ
I also bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger,
اور محمدؐ اس کے بندے اور رسولؐ ہیں،
صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهٖ
may Allah bless him and his Household.
درود و سلام ہو ان پر اور ان کی آلؑ پر
وَ اَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ حَقٌّ
[I also bear witness that] Paradise is true,
جنّت حق ہے،
وَ اَنَّ النَّارَ حَقٌّ
Hellfire is true,
جہنّم اور قیامت حق ہے۔
وَ اَنَّ السَّاعَةَ حَقٌّ اٰتِيَةٌ لَارَيْبَ فِيْهَا
the Hour [of Resurrection] is true and is coming; there is no doubt about it,
وہ بہرحال آنے والی ہے
وَ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَبْعَثُ مَنْ فِى الْقُبُوْرِ
and Allah shall resurrect those who are in graves.
اور اللہ لوگوں کو قبر سے نکالنے والا ہے۔
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
Only then, this inscription may be written down:
اس کے بعد یہ عبارت لکھے بسم اللہ الرحمٰن الرحیم۔
شَهِدَ الشُّهُوْدُ الْمُسَمُّوْنَ فِىْ هٰذَا الْكِتَابِ
The witnesses whose names are mentioned in this document-paper witness
ان گواہوں کا نام یہاں درج کیا گیا ہے جو اس بات کے گواہ ہیں
اَنَّ اَخَاهُمْ فِىْ اللّٰهِ عَزَّوَجَلَّ (فلان بن فلان )
that their brother-in-Allah {so-and-so and the son of so-and-so]
کہ ان کا فلاں برادر ایمانی اس نے گواہ بنایا ہے
اَشْهَدَهُمْ وَاسْتَوْدَعَهُمْ وَاَقَرَّ عِنْدَهُمْ
has asked them to witness for him, entrusted with them this statement, and confessed in their presence
ان کے سامنے اقرار کیا ہے اور انھیں اس امر کا امانت دار قرار دیا ہے
اَنَّهُ يَشْهَدُ اَنْ لَّاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ
that he bears witness that there is no god save Allah,
کہ وہ اللہ کی وحدانیت کی گواہی دیتا ہے
وَحْدَهُ لَاشَرِيْكَ لَهُ
One and Only and having no associate with Him,
کوئی اس کا شریک نہیں
وَ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهٖ عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ
that Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his Household, is His servant and messenger,
اور محمدؐ کو اللہ کا بندہ اور رسول مانتا ہے
وَ اَنَّهُ مُقِرُّ بِجَمِيْعِ الْاَنْبِيَاۤءِ وَالرُّسُلِ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ
that he acknowledges all of the prophets and the messengers [of God], peace be upon them,
اور تمام انبیاء اور مرسلین کا اقرار کرتا ہے۔
وَ اَنَّ عَلِيًّا وَلِىُّ اللّٰهِ وَ اِمَامُهُ
that 'Ali is the representative of Allah and the leader appointed by Him,
علیؑ کو ولی اور امام مانتا ہے۔
وَ اَنَّ الْاَئِمَّةَ مِنْ وُلْدِهِ اَئِمَّتُهُ
that the Imams from 'Ali’s progeny are his leaders,
ان کی اولاد میں ائمہ کو امام تسلیم کرتا ہے
وَ اَنَّ اَوَّلَهُمُ الْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ
that they are in sequence are al-Hasan, al-Husayn,
جن میں حسنؑ، حسینؑ،
وَ عَلِىُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ
'Ali the son of al-Husayn,
علیؑ ابن الحسینؑ،
وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ
Muhammad the son of 'Ali,
محمدؑ ابن علیؑ،
وَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ
Ja'far the son of Muhammad,
جعفرؑ ابن محمدؑ،
وَ مُوْسَى بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ
Musa the son of Ja'far,
موسیٰؑ ابن جعفرؑ،
وَ عَلِىُّ بْنُ مُوْسٰى
'Ali the son of Musa,
علیؑ ابن موسیٰؑ،
وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ
Muhammad the son of 'Ali,
محمدؑ ابن علیؑ،
وَ عَلِىُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ
'Ali the son of Muhammad,
علیؑ ابن محمدؑ،
وَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ
al-Hasan the son of 'Ali,
حسنؑ ابن علیؑ
وَالْقَاۤئِمُ الْحُجَّةُ
and the Rising Argument-person,
اور حضرت قائم حجتؑ ہیں۔
عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ
peace be upon them all;
درود و سلام ہو ان پر
وَ اَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ حَقٌّ
and that Paradise is true,
اور یہ مانتا ہے کہ جنّت حق ہے،
وَالنَّارَ حَقٌّ
Hellfire is true,
جہنّم حق ہے،
وَالسَّاعَةَ اٰتِيَةٌ لَارَيْبَ فِيْهَا،
the Hour [of Resurrection] shall be coming; there is no doubt about it,
قیامت آنے والی ہے۔
وَ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَبْعَثُ مَنْ فِى الْقُبُوْرِ
and Allah shall resurrect those who are in graves;
اللہ بندوں کو قبروں سے نکالے گا۔
وَ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهٖ عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ
and that Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his Household, is Allah’s servant and messenger;
محمدؐ اس کے بندے اور رسول ہیں۔
جَاۤءَ بِالْحَقِّ
he has come with the truth,
حق لے کر آئے ہیں۔
وَ اَنَّ عَلِيًّا وَلِىُّ اللّٰهِ
that 'Ali is the representative of Allah,
علیؑ ان کے ولی
وَالْخَلِيْفَةُ مِنْ بَعْدِ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ
the vicegerent after Allah’s Messenger,
اور پیغمبر کے بعد ان کے خلیفہ ہیں
صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهٖ
may Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Household,
درود و سلام ہو ان پر اور ان کی آلؑ پر
وَ مُسْتَخْلَفُهُ فِىْۤ اُمَّتِهِ
and the one appointed by Allah’s Messenger to succeed him in his nation,
جن کو پیغمبرؐ نے اپنا جانشین بنایا ہے
مُؤَدِّيًا لِاَمْرِ رَبِّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالٰى
carrying out the command of his Lord the All-blessed and All-exalted,
امرِ الٰہی کو پہنچانے کے لیے
وَ اَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتُ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ
that Fatimah is the daughter of Allah’s Messenger,
فاطمہؑ بنتِ پیغمبرؐ ہیں۔
وَ ابْنَيْهَا الْحَسَنَ وَالْحُسَيْنَ
her two sons al-Hasan and al-Husayn
ان کے فرزند حسنؑ و حسینؑ
اِبْنَا رَسُوْلِاللّٰهِ وَسِبْطَاهُ
are the sons and grandsons of Allah’s Messenger,
اولادِ رسول ہیں
وَ اِمَامَا الْهُدٰى
the two leaders to the true guidance,
ہدایت کے امام
وَ قَاۤئِدَا الرَّحْمَةِ
and the two principals of mercy,
اور رحمت کے قائد ہیں
وَ اَنَّ عَلِيًّا وَ مُحَمَّدًا
and that 'Ali, Muhammad,
اور ان کے بعد علیؑ، محمدؑ،
وَ جَعْفَرًا وَ مُوْسٰى
Ja'far, Musa,
جعفرؑ، موسیٰؑ،
وَ عَلِيًّا وَ مُحَمَّدًا
'Ali, Muhammad,
علیؑ، محمدؑ،
وَ عَلِيًّا وَ حَسَنًا
'Ali, al-Hasan,
علیؑ، حسنؑ
وَالْحُجَّةَ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ
and the Argument-person, peace be upon them all,
اور حضرت حجت علیہم السلام
اَئِمَّةٌ وَقَادَةٌ
are Imams, leaders,
یہ سب امام قائد
وَ دُعَاةٌ اِلَى اللّٰهِ جَلَّ وَ عَلَا
inviters to Allah the All-majestic and All-high,
اور اللہ کی طرف دعوت دینے والے ہیں
وَ حُجَّةٌ عَلٰى عِبَادِهِ
and arguments [of Him] against His servants.
اور بندوں پر اللہ کی حجّت ہیں۔
The writer of this document-paper should then address the witnesses with these words:
يَا... وَ يَا... اَلْمُسَمَّيْنِ فِيْ هٰذَا الْكِتَابِ
O [so-and-so] and [so-and-so] whose names are mentioned in this document-paper,
اے فلاں اے فلاں! کہ جن کا اس تحریر میں نام لیا گیا ہے،
اثْبِتُوْا لِيْ هٰذِهِ الشَّهَادَةَ عِنْدَكُمْ
certify for me this testimony of you
اس شہادت کو میرے لیے اس وقت تک قائم رکھو،
حَتّٰي تَلْقَوْنِيْ بِهَا عَلَي الْحَوْضِ
so that you will meet me carrying it at the Divine Pond.
جب حوض کوثر پر مجھ سے ملوگے
As a reply, the witnesses should say:
يَا... نَسْتَوْدِعُكَ اللّٰهَ
O [so-and-so], we entrust you with Allah.
اے فلاں! ہم تجھے اللہ کے حوالے کرتے ہیں
وَالشَّهَادَةُ وَالْاِقْرَارُ وَ الْاِخَاۤءُ
Our testimony, admission, and brotherhood
اس گواہی، اقرار اور بھائی چارے کے ساتھ
مَوْدُوْعَةٌ عِنْدَ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ
are entrusted with Allah’s Messenger,
جو امانت ہے رسول ﷲ
صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهٖ
may Allah bless him and his Household.
صلی ﷲ علیہ و آلہ کے پاس
وَنَقْرَءُ عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ
We invoke upon you peace,
ہم کہتے ہیں تم پر سلام
وَ رَحْمَةُاللّٰهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ
Allah’s mercy, and His blessings.
خدا کی رحمت اور برکتیں ہوں۔
Then, the document-paper should be folded, enveloped, and sealed with the seals of both of the witnesses and the person for which the witness has been made. It must then be put to the right side of the dead with the palm-leaf stalk. This paper, which must be written down with camphor (i.e. water with which camphor is mixed) and non-aromatic aloe-wood, must be put on the dead person’s forehead.
