Hirz e Imam Musa Kazim (a)

Fifth: ‘Ali ibn Yaqtin has reported that when Imam Musa ibn Ja’far (‘a) was with some of his relatives, he was informed about the decisions that Musa ibn al-Mahdi, the brother of Harun the ‘Abbasid ruler, had made about him. He asked his relatives, “What do you think?” They said, “We think that it is better for you to avoid him and hide yourself since no one can be immune from his wickedness.” Imam al-Kazim (‘a) smiled and quoted this poetic verse as example:

The eaters of the hot, mean meals (i.e. Quraysh) have claimed that they will overcome their Lord.

سخینہ کا گمان یہ تھا کہ وہ اپنے رب پر غالب رہے گی

Verily, the overcomer of all combatants shall most surely win.

لیکن خدا تو ہر غالب پر غالب رہتا ہے

He (‘a) then raised his hands towards the sky and said this supplicatory prayer:

O my God, too many are the enemies who honed their daggers’ edge against me,

میرے ﷲ کتنے ہی دشمنوں نے میرے لیے چھری کی دھار تیز کی

sharpened the heads of their weapons against me,

اور میرے لیے ہر تلوار کھینچی

mixed for me their deadly poisons,

اور میرے لیے زہر ِقاتل گھول کر تیار کیا

and kept a sleepless eye on me,

لیکن میری نگہبانی کرنے والی آنکھ نہیں سوئی

but when You considered that I am too weak to bear hardships

پس تو نے جب میری کمزوری دیکھی کہ میں ان ناگواریوں کو سہہ نہیں سکتا

and I am too powerless to bear the accumulating cataclysms,

ان تباہ کن سختیوں کے سامنے عاجز ہوں

You warded off all that from me through Your might and power,

تو نے ان سب کو اپنی قوت وطاقت سے برطرف کر دیا

but not through my might or power.

مجھ میں اتنی قوت وطاقت نہیں تھی

You have thus thrown him in the hole, which he had dug for me,

پھر تو نے اسے اس گڑھے میں پھینکاجو اس نے میرے لیے کھودا

making him lose any hope he had in this world

وہ اپنی بات میں ناکام رہا اس دنیا میں

and move away from what he had expected in the Hereafter.

اور آخرت میں بھی نامراد ہی رہا

So, all praise be to you for that;

پس تیرے لیے حمد ہے اس مہربانی پر

praise that is comparable to what You deserve, O my master.

اے میرے آقا جتنی حمد تیری شان کےلائق ہے

So, O Allah, (please) grasp him by Your almightiness,

اے معبود! اپنے غلبے کے ساتھ اسے پکڑے

notch his sharpness against me with Your omnipotence,

اور اپنی قدرت سے اس کی تلوار کو مجھ سے ہٹادے

and cause him to be engaged with what will inflict him

تو اسے کسی طرف لگا دے کہ اسی میں لگا رہے

and to be too weak to face his rivals.

اور اس چیز میں عاجز کر دے جو وہ چاہتا ہے

O Allah, (please) help me against his animosity with such help that is in progress

اے معبود! تو میری طرف سے اس پر فوری شورش مسلط کر دے

and due to which my rage will be healed

کہ جس سے میرا غصہ ٹھنڈا ہو جائے

and my anger will protect me against him.

اور وہ مجھے دبوچنے سے باز آ جائے

O Allah, (please) connect my prayer with Your response,

اے معبود! میری دعا کو قبولیت سے ہم کنار فرما دے

attach my complaint to the reply that changes my state,

میری شکایت کے دور ہونے کا بند و بست فرما

show him very soon and practically what You have prepared threateningly for the wrongdoers,

اسے جلد اس چیز سے آشناکر دے جس کی تو نے ظالموں کو دھمکی دی ہے

and show me very soon and practically how You respond to the distressed ones.

اور مجھے اس چیز سے آگاہ کر جس کے ذریعے تو نے بے چاروں کی دعا قبول کرنے کا وعدہ کیا ہے

Verily, You are the Lord of great favor and generous conferral.

بے شک تو بڑے فضل کا مالک اور بہترین احسان کرنے والا ہے۔

The attendants then separated. Their next meeting was to discuss the news of the death of Musa ibn al-Mahdi.
