Taweez against Fever

(1) It is recommended to say this supplicatory amulet, which the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) taught to Imam Ali(a.s.) against fever:

خدایا میرے اس نرم جلد میری باریک ہڈّیاں ان پر رحم فرما۔ میں تیری پناہ چاہتا ہوں اس بخار کی تپش سے اے بیماری اگر تیرا ایمان اللہ پر ہے تو میرے گوشت کو نہ کھا، میرے خون کو نہ پی اور مجھے تکلیف میں مبتلا نہ کر اگر کوئی تجھے ٹھکانہ چاہئے تو اس کے گھر چلی جا جو خدا کے علاوہ کوئی خدا مانتا ہو اس لیے کہ میں تو خدا کو وحدۂ لا شریک مانتا ہوں اور یہ ایمان رکھتا ہوں کہ محمد مصطفیٰؐ اس کے بندے اور رسول ہیں۔

(2) A feverish person is recommended to say repeatedly in mornings and evenings the supplicatory prayer known as Dua al-nur - a supplicatory prayer that Lady Fatimah al-Zahra’(a.s.) taught to Salman. This supplicatory prayer can be found in Mafatih al-Jinan.

(3) The Holy Imams (a.s.) are reported to have used to treated themselves against fever with cold water. Successively, they used to wet their clothes by putting one on and leaving the other in water. When the dressed one dried out, they would put on the other wet one.

(4) Handwritten by Imam al-Rida(a.s.), a feverish person may write the following inscriptions on three sheets of paper as follows:

On the first sheet, the following may be written down:

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

خدا کے نام سے جو بڑا رحم کرنے والا مہربان ہے

“Fear not! Surely, you shall be the uppermost.

ڈرو نہیں بے شک تمہی برتر ہو۔

On the second sheet, the following may be written down:

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

خدا کے نام سے جو بڑا رحم کرنے والا مہربان ہے

“Fear not! You are secure from the unjust people.”

ڈرو نہیں کہ ظالموں سے نجات پاؤگے

On the third sheet, the following may be written down:

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

خدا کے نام سے جو بڑا رحم کرنے والا مہربان ہے

“Surely, His is the creation and the command

آگاہ رہو کہ خلق و امر اسی کے لیے ہے

Blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

بابرکت ہے خدا جو جہانوں کا رب ہے۔

On each of these sheets, Surah al-Tawheed may be recited three times. After that, the feverish person may swallow the sheets in three days; each one on a day. If this is practiced, the fever will be healed, Allah willing.

(5) The feverish person my untie the buttons of his shirt, hang his head down to his chest, say the adhan and the iqamah statements, and recite Surah al-Faatehah seven times. If this is practiced, the fever will be healed, Allah willing.

(6) The Holy Imams (a.s.) are reported to have instructed that the following supplicatory prayer should be written on a parchment and hanged to the feverish person:

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your almightiness,

پروردگار میں تجھ سے سوال کرتا ہوں۔ تیری عزّت ،

omnipotence, authority,

قدرت، سلطنت

and whatever is comprehended by Your knowledge

اور بڑے علم کی وسعت کے ذریعے

to bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

کہ محمدؐ و آل محمدؐ پر رحمت نازل فرما

not to overload over [so-and-so] the son of [so-and-so] any thing evil that You have created,

اور اپنے فلاں بندے پر کسی کو مسلّط نہ کرنا جو اس کے ساتھ کوئی بُرائی کرسکے۔

and to have mercy upon his soft skin

رحم فرما اس کی نرم جلد پر،

and his fragile bone

اس کی باریک ہڈّیوں پر،

against the outbursts of fire.

کہ بخار ان کو تپش نہ چڑھائے

Come out, O Ummu-Mildam (i.e. fever),

ٹل جا اے بخار

eater of flesh,

اے گوشت کھانے والے

and drinker of blood.

اے خون پینے والے

Its heat and coldness are from Hell.

جس کی سردی اور گرمی جہنّم میں سے ہے

If you have believed in Allah the Greatest,

اگر تیرا ایمان خدائے عظیم پر ہے۔

then do not eat any thing of the flesh of [so-and-so] the son of [so-and-so],

تو اس بندے کے گوشت کو مت کھا،

do not suck any amount of his blood,

اس کے خون کو پینے کا ارادہ نہ کر،

do not weaken any part of his bones,

اس کی ہڈّیوں کو کمزور نہ کر،

do not stir up distress over him,

اسے کسی غم میں مبتلا نہ کر،

do not excite headache over him,

اس میں درد پیدا نہ کر

and move away from his hair, skin,

اور اس کے بالوں سے، کھال سے،

flesh, and blood

خون سے، گوشت سے

to one who claims that there is another god with Allah

اس شخص کے طرف منتقل ہوجا جو خدا کے علاوہ کسی کو خدا مانتا ہو۔

save Whom there is no god.

ہم تو جانتے ہیں کہ خدا بے نیاز ہے اور مشرکین سے ہر خیال سے بلند تر ہے۔

Glory be to Him and Exalted be Him against whatever they associate with Him.

Then, it is recommended to write down the name of a non-Muslim or an enemy of Almighty Allah.

(7) On the right arm of the feverish person, it is advised to hang a sheet of paper (or the like) on which the following inscription has been written down:

خدا کے نام سے جو بڑا رحم کرنے والا مہربان ہے

ساری تعریف اللہ کے لئے ہے جو عالمین کا پالنے والا ہے

وہ عظیم اوردائمی رحمتوں والا ہے

روزِقیامت کا مالک و مختار ہے

پروردگار! ہم تیری ہی عبادت کرتے ہیں ا ور تجھی سے مدد چاہتے ہیں

ہمیں سیدھے راستہ کی ہدایت فرماتا رہ

جو اُن لوگوں کا راستہ ہے جن پر تو نے نعمتیں نازل کی ہیں

ان کا راستہ نہیں جن پر غضب نازل ہوا ہے

یا جو بہکے ہوئے ہیں

اللہ کے نام سے اور اللہ کے سہارے سے

میں پناہ چاہتا ہوں اللہ کے مکمل کلمات کی۔

اس سے کوئی نیک و بد آگے نہیں بڑھ سکتا ہے

کہ مجھے پناہ دے تمام مخلوقات کے شر سے،

ہر درد سے، ہر غم سے،

ہر مصیبت سے، ہر آفت سے،

دن و رات کے حوادث سے،

عجم و عرب کے فاسقوں کے شر سے،

جن و انس کے فاسقوں کے شر سے،

شیطان اور اس کے شرکا کے شر سے

جو زمین پر چلنے والی ہے

اور اس کا اختیار پروردگار کے ہاتھ میں ہے۔

میرا خدا صراط مستقیم پر ہے۔

خدایا میں نے تجھ پر اعتماد کیا

اور میں تیری ہی طرف متوجہ ہوں۔

میری بازگشت تیری طرف ہے

اور تو میرے لیے ویسا ہی حکم دے دے کہ اے آگ ابراہیمؑ کے لیے سرد ہوجا۔

جب لوگوں نے مکّاری کرنا چاہی تو پروردگار نے ان کو پست بنادیا۔ خدایا ہماری خطاؤں اور غلطیوں پر ہمارا مؤاخذہ نہ کرنا۔ اللہ ہمارے لیے کافی ہے۔ اس کے علاوہ کوئی خدا نہیں۔ اسی پر ہمارا اعتماد ہے۔ اس کا حکم ہے، خدا پر بھروسہ کرو، جو ہمیشہ زندہ رہنے والا ہے۔ اس کے حمد کی تسبیح کرو اور وہ اپنے بندوں کے گناہوں کو خوب جانتا ہے۔ اس کے علاوہ کوئی خدا نہیں ہے۔ اس نے اپنے وعدے کو پورا کیا ہے، اپنے بندوں کی مدد کی ہے اور تمام دشمنوں کی جماعت کو ہزیمت دی ہے۔ جو خدا نے چاہا وہ ہوگیا۔ اس کے علاوہ کسی کے پاس طاقت نہیں ہے اور اس نے طے کردیا ہے کہ وہ، اس کا رسول بہرحال غالب آنے والے ہیں اس لیے کہ خدا قوی بھی ہے، عزیز بھی ہے۔ اس کی جماعت غالب آنے والی ہے اور جو اس سے وابستہ ہوجائے وہ صراطِ مسقتیم کی ہدایت پاگیا۔ اللہ محمدؐ و آل محمدؐ پر رحمت نازل فرمائے۔

(8) On three pieces of sugar, the following three phrases may be written down and the feverish person may eat them in the mornings of three days as the first meal, each piece a day:

The inscription on the first piece of sugar is this:

I will be tied up by the permission of Allah.

میں نے خدا کے حکم سے باندھ دیا۔

The inscription on the second piece of sugar is this:

I have fled by the permission of Allah.

خدا کے حکم سے پختہ تر کردیا۔

The inscription on the third piece of sugar is this:

I will be calmed down by the permission of Allah.

میں نے خدا کے حکم سے روک دیا۔

A SUPPLICATORY PRAYER AGAINST TENESMUS

It is reported that a man complained to Imam Musa al-Kazim (a.s.) about suffering from continuous tenesmus (i.e. a frequent, excessive, and painful desire to defecate). As treatment, the Imam (a.s.) taught the man to say the following supplicatory prayer after the Night Prayer:

خدایا میرے پاس جو بھی خیر ہے وہ تیری طرف سے ہے۔ میری کوئی تعریف نہیں ہے اور جو کوئی برائی ہے اس سے تو نے آگاہ کردیا تھا لہٰذا میرے پاس کوئی عذر نہیں ہے۔ خدایا میں تیری پناہ چاہتا ہوں اس بات سے کہ اس بات پر بھروسہ کروں جس میں میری کوئی تعریف نہیں ہے۔

A SUPPLICATORY PRAYER AGAINST STOMACH GURGLING

Imam Musa al-Kazim (a.s.) is also reported to have advised the same previous supplicatory prayer to be said after the Night Prayer by those who suffer from stomach gurgling. [A man said to him, “I suffer from stomach gurgling that never stops. Therefore, I feel embarrassed when people to whom I speak hear the sounds of such gurgling. So, please pray Allah to cure me of it.]

Imam al-Sadiq(a.s.), advising those who suffer from stomach gurgling, said, “Black cumin may be mixed with honey and then eaten.”

A SUPPLICATORY PRAYER AGAINST LEPROSY

Yunus has reported that whitish scales between the eyes affected him. He therefore complained about this disease to Imam al-Sadiq(a.s.) who, leading him to a treatment, said: You may pure yourself ceremonially (ghusl), offer a two-unit prayer, and say this (supplicatory prayer):

O Allah! O All-beneficent! O All-merciful!

اے اللہ اے رحمٰن اے رحیم،

O Hearer of prayers!

اے دعاؤں کے سننے والے،

O Donor of the good!

اے نیکیوں کے عطا کرنے والے

(Please) give me the good of this world and the good of the Hereafter,

مجھے دنیا و آخرت کی نیکی عطا فرما دے

protect me against the evil of this world and the evil of the Hereafter,

اور دنیا و آخرت کے شر سے محفوظ فرما

and remove from me what I am facing,

اور میرے اس درد و غم کو زائل فرما

for this matter has enraged and saddened me.

اس لیے کہ اس نے مجھے رنجیدہ اور پریشان کردیا ہے۔

Reporting the same narration, the author of ‘Uddat al-DAIhas reported Imam al-Sadiq(a.s.) as saying:

In the beginning of the last third of night, you may perform the ritual ablution (wudu’) and offer the prayer you usually offer at this time. In the second prostration of the first two units of the prayer, you may say the following (supplicatory prayer) while you are in a state of prostration:

O Most High! O Allgreat!

اے خدائے علی و عظیم،

O All-beneficent! O All-merciful!

اے خدائے رحمٰن و رحیم،

O Hearer of prayers!

اے آوازوں کے سننے والے،

O Donor of the good!

اے نیکیوں کے عطا کرنے والے

(Please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

محمدؐ و آل محمدؐ پر رحمت نازل فرما

give me from the good of this world and the Hereafter

اور دنیا و آخرت کی نیکی مجھے ویسے عطا فرما

in a way that fits You,

جس کا تو اہل ہے

repel from me the evil of this world and the Hereafter

اور دنیا و آخرت کے شر کو مجھ سے دور فرما

in a way that fits You,

جس کا تو اہل ہے

and remove from me this pain,

اور اس بیماری کو بھی دور فرما

for it has enraged and saddened me.

جس نے مجھے پریشان کر رکھا ہے۔

You may pray Almighty Allah so persistently.

Yunus added, “Before I returned to al-Kufah, Almighty Allah has removed from me all the traces of that disease.”

For this disease as well as hemorrhoids, it is reported to write down Surah Yasin with honey in a cup that must be then washed and drunk.

It is also reported to have the soil of Imam al-Husayn’s tomb after being kneaded with rainwater.
